PPC 6700 Backlight timeout keeps changing back to 10 seconds

I like my Backlight timeout set to 5 min when on Battery power. It constantly changes back to 10 sec. It's annoying the crap out of me. Anyone know the problem?

P.S.- If it helps, I previously had PhoneAlarm installed, but then un-installed it. Maybe that caused a problem and/or did not un-install properly.

Sounds like a PhoneAlarm problem.

I had this problem even before I ever had phone alarm installed (AKU2.2, 3.3 or 3.5). I have done 2 things with Neo's backlight fix that "fixes" this 100%.

I believe the backlight fix was already uploaded, but my attached zip includes the shortcuts you may need.

1. unzip attachment
2. copy the "neo_backlight_fix.exe" program in the following directory (create BackLight directory if needed:
\Program Files\BackLight\
3. copy whatever timeout link you want your backlight set to the following directory:
\Windows\StartUp
The extension of the .lnk files are the number of seconds it will set the backlight for. So if you want 5 minute timeout copy the "backlight_fix_300.lnk" to the startup directory.

This will solve the backlight being reset to 10 seconds when you reboot or device.

I have had instances where it would revert the timeout to 10 seconds every time it was brought out of standby mode (i.e. press the power button), but haven't seen it in AKU 3.x though. So a quick patch was to create a link in SPB PocketPlus (could also use DevState, O2, or iLauncher) on the today screen directly to one of the backlight .lnk files. If it was reset to 10 seconds I just tapped the link on my today screen and all was good.

It's not *necessarily* a Phonealarm problem; I've experienced this maddening issue before and I've never used PhoneAlarm. Neo's fix may just do this, but there's a registry fix that has worked for me if you're into that sort of thing. I thought I had saved it but I can't find it; it's over on pdaphonehome.com forums. I'm sure you'll be able to fix it; what a PITA...just search for "backlight 10 seconds" or something like that and you should be able to find it.

I recall that thread on pdaphonehome, but it never worked for me no matter how many times or variations of that fix they mentioned. Whether it was deleting the key or renaming it. But hopefully it will work for others. Sorry I don't remember where the thread was either.

I think this is the thread: http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6...acklight+timer

According to the details in the thread, you evidently set your backlight settings to whatever you want them to be, then change

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight\LockLevel \LockLevel

from 1 to 0.

I just made the change.. I'll let it run for a couple of days and see if it quits resetting to 10 seconds...

I am not having a problem with the backlight reverting to 10 seconds, but I am having a similar problem with getting the block for turning off the backlight when on external power after XX number of minutes in staying unchecked - that is, when on external power I want the backlight to always remain on but the block keeps getting rechecked after a soft reset.

There are two places to check if you want the backlight to stay on, or to turnoff after a designated number of minutes - One is in the settings\system\backlight under the external power tab and the other is in settings\system\power under the advanced tab. I can get the backlight settings to remain as I checked them, but block keeps get re-checked in the power setting.

I have tried changing various dWords under HK-Current-User\Control Panel\Backlight from 0 to 1, or vice versa with no joy.

Any suggestons?

I've tried that and it still resets after a while, albeit not as often. So far, I am using an AKU 3.5 ROM and have not had it happen to me once.
