Talking Battery Issue SOLVED!

I spent hours and hours on this problem, hooked up multi-meters, and this is the solution:

6.1 is a battery drain on the 6700. Period. Something in there is keeping the battery ticking and draining.

6.0 does not do it, 5.0 does not do it.

I've had a multi-meter on the 6700 on the "sleep" state and it is 24mAh with 6.1. THAT IS ALMOST AS HIGH AS IT BEING ON WITHOUT THE BACKLIGHT!

So here's what I did. I got a 6800 and started doing the exact same tweaks as I did on the 6700. The battery life lasts over 3 days with nominal usage. The bottom line?

Call your carrier and upgrade your phone with insurance for $50 or what have you to get your hands on a 6800. It is so much better - plus gps, thinner, brighter backlight, and BATTERY LIFE is A++++.

I thought I would give my last 2 cents as I ship this 6700 back to the insurance company.

So goodbye Apache forums, you will be missed. (the headaches over the battery will NOT be, however.)

Re: Battery Issue SOLVED!

1) Just because you pay 50 bux doesnt mean you will get a 6800.

2) How did you manage to get a VOM on the contacts of the battery while it was in the phone?

3) There are several reasons why many of us say not to go to 6.1 (you really are not gaining anything other than "having" 6.1) and my device is perfect with 5.

4) GL with your 68. As far as I am concerned the only advantage is the GPS and more RAM. Nothing else is new.

Re: Battery Issue SOLVED!

I have always had excellent battery life on my 6700.. even with the 6.1 ... i suspect that BATTERY LIFE DEPENDS ON THE PARTICULAR BATTERY IN YOUR UNIT...

agrred, it could be a bad battery simply not holding its charge. Keep in mind it could read the right voltage on a VOM but the amperage is something totally different.

Re: Battery Issue SOLVED!

Well, I used a multimeter and intercepted the lead from the battery to the phone with it. Using a different power source would not heed different results. The high drain of power was either related to software that was installed with 6.1 kitchen (very very possible) or 6.1 itself. Not the battery. That is impossible.

My new 6800 arrived 2 weeks ago. Its so much better than the 6700 and I was die hard 6700. Just food for thought. My joystick was stuck in the up position anyway so I would have been happy with another 6700 but the 6800 was offered. The rest is happy history.

GOod luck guys

I have to disagree...i purchased an OEM battery when this began to happen on my apache...and the result was the same...the battery drained was horrible. I could not even get more than 4 hours (on sleep mode)....if i made a call...forget it...it would die like in 30 minutes....
i whent with the 6800 and i tell, it is much much better than the apache...(with wm6.1 that is)... trust me, i love the apache...but the mogul beats it any day...
no hard feelings...

Re: Battery Issue SOLVED!

Thanks for the post affirming what we all went through - and thanks because one of your posts were the direct cause of my new 6800. (calling in on insurance)

Thanks,

I was not saying this WAS his issue but rather something to keep in mind. Think of it like a car battery that you have enough juice to run the radio but not engage the starter motor.....

But if you had a 67 with bad battery drain and you got another OEM battery and STILL had bad battery drain then you and I both know it was never the battery but rather your phone or software on it. Ive never denied the 68 as being better in some ways but at the same time the 67 has its own advantages, like OC'ing. Honestly though, come July 11th or shortly there after, I might be switching carriers. I love my 67 also but it is getting old.
