Is wmodem faster than internet sharing?

When I used to use wmodem for slingplayer on my laptop, it worked fine. Now that I use internet sharing, it freezes for long periods of time. So I hooked up my blackberry using sprint connection, and sling player works like it used to when I used wmodem on the ppc 6700.

hadn't noticed this - one possible difference is that with wmodem, it blocks all other phone-based use of the data connection, while with internet sharing any other apps (or, say, push email) can still tie up the data connection on the phone.

Might it be that?

ICS ok for me..

I have not had any problems with the ICS. Seems the same as the Modem was in past. Do you have the latest PRL and are you getting good signal?

Signal strength is good. I like internet sharing cause I can just plug up to any laptop and I'm good to go. While surfing the web it's fine, it's just when using slingbox it freezes. It didn't do this with the blackberry which I tested back to back using sprint connection and with the ppc on internet sharing. And I don't remember it doing this with wmodem. I have prl 20026.

Out of curiousity, I went back to aku 3.3 so I could use wmodem since I don't know of a working version on 3.5, and slingplayer works much better using wmodem vs internet sharing. Also, does internet sharing only work on computers that already have activesync installed? I tried to hook it up to a couple of random laptops and the only ones that worked, happens to have activesync already installed.

possibly... it uses RNDIS (or whatever that's called over USB, which might only get installed in XP/2k with ActiveSync.

im on 3.5 and both the wmodem & internet sharing work fine... i prefer the wmodem because i dont need to "install" anything so i can use it on my work computers (wich have installing ANYTHING locked out). To use internet share, you need activesync installed, i have noticed that activesync sometimes f*cks up the connection so that may be whats happening to you.

Actually you still have to install the USB drivers.
If yer system admin was a good one (and really evil) then this would be disabled as well.

That is why it is nice to be the system admin. you can disable everything for everybody and enable it for yourself. Matter of fact, shoot me an email because i need to disable all services, control panel, setup firewall proxies, cos you are spending entirely too much time on PPCgeeks.com. I can see you.

Was there a fix for wmodem on 3.5?
