Hello everyone. I am noob and have just bought a used Apache from ebay. I absolutely love the phone specially after installing the "JEFF SPEED DEMON ROM" ( Clean and simple) I do have a question for all you gurus. The Unit I got is a real battery hog. The guy I bought it from said it was an old battery so I bought a new one. But both batteries give me about 1 hr of talk time from fully charged to 10%. The phone is okay in every mode except when I make or receive calls. The phone during calls gets hot quickly and each 5-10 minute call eats anywhere from 10-30% battery.
Do you think its defective?
I also remember reading somewhere that the 2.2 rom caused the battery life to go way down.

Please advise. Also would like to know if reducing clocking speed will help.

I am a power phone user and because of work have at least 10-15 calls a day and can not go on like this.

Any advise and help is much appreciated.

I got it from the PPCgeeks ftp site. I'm sure it's still there somewhere, or something like it.

Hey Jeff!!

Can you give me advise with my battery issue??? Much obliged. :(

No clue about the battery. Lithium batteries do lose capacity over time so it makes perfect sense the original battery would behave as you describe. However if a fresh, new battery does not solve the problem, I'd suspect the device itself, likely a short somewhere.

I got my phone second hand. It was two years old when I got it. The battery would only last about 20 to 30 minutes of talking. It was a 1350 mAh standard size. I bought a 2600 mAh extended battery on the web as a replacement and now I get about 200 minutes on a charge. At least that's how much I talked today and still had about 20% battery left. The phone did not get hot. Maybe that's why the previous owner got rid of it.

Thanks Jeff

tcbusch,

It definitely sounds like a defective unit or battery. I don't believe there are any battery issues with the new ROMs.

If you are constantly running wifi, Bluetooth and Web programs, such as instant messenger or push email (especially if you are not in a good signal EVDO area) which would drain the battery) then possibly this might account for your problem. There are threads here on battery problems and programs to monitor battery drain.

I think I'm getting better battery life; so far, after a day at the airport, I have 60% left instead of 40%. I think the new rom shuts off better and saves power. Be sure to use the 'running' softkey (thanks Jeff, I like it-I used to have to link to this) and turn off running programs when not in use and turn off push email.

Yes, I also like the Running Porgrams soft key. I never used to use it as I use SPB Pocket Plus in whihc the "x' icon at the top right would asctually close the program. But that does not seem to be working (yet) with the new ROM and the use of Sprite Backup to reinstall my programs. I guess I will have tory to reinstall SPB Pocket Plus individually and see if that changes the "x" button from minimize to close.

I have the 3200 mah Seidio extended battery so I no longer have to worry about it. I can go several days with moderate use without having to recharge.
