I installed Clean and Simple this morning. Then I unlocked the Extended Rom. WOW! Very impressed. It was easy to do. Just follow the directions on the update software. Finally, I reinstalled all my applications. I threw my games in the Extended Rom.

Thanks Jeff,

I do have a question about my ear-bud volume. I have seen posts about the ear-bud volume being too low but mine is too high. Is there a registry setting or something that would allow me to set the minimum level lower? I am posting this question here because didn't know if the new ROM would make this question only relevant to 3.5. Let me know if I should post it on the main forum instead.

could some one please direct me to the link for software and information on how to unlocking the extended rom. Im an old HP ipaq user this sounds like the old file store, that would be great on my 6700!

Hello Jeff

Thanks for the new ROM. I am a NOOB and this forum just took me from the dark ages to the twilight zone in 24 hours flat.
Still giddy from all the info overload.

One quick question... How do I unlock the extra ROM and how to get a realistic battery readout

Thanks much in advance

I use Batti for the battery stuff, puts a discreet little line right at the top of the screen, only a pixel or two high.

ROM unlocker is in here somewhere, see what a forum search turns up. You're looking for two files. One is an .exe that unlocks the extended ROM, the other is a cab file that unhides it.

DO NOT INSTALL THIS IF SPRINT IS NOT YOUR CARRIER. Seriously. I'll post the generic version later, but since I'm using EVDO (rev 0, alas) as my PC internet connection uploading these installers takes forever.

What's missing:

Transcriber
Stupid T9 input panel
ClearStorage
Some unnecessary graphics
Cyberon Voice Dial
WModem (Internet Sharing is included and replaces WModem)
A few other minor deletions, think of this ROM as "finely sculpted" ;^)

What's added:

WM6 Crossbow themes
OSX Graphite keyboard skin, which goes nicely with the WM6 stuff
Calibri and Cambria fonts from Office 2007
Midlet Manager, a Java virtual machine (for running things like the mobile Gmail applet)
Sprint bootscreen
Sprint phone customizations (no ExtROM needed, do with it what you will)
Some registry tweakage ("She'll make point five past lightspeed. She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself.")

As always, installation is pretty simple. Just plug in your device USB and run the installer. Follow the directions.

Disclaimer: No official support for this, kids, but really, it's just about impossible to irreversibly brick these phones. Just follow the directions and you'll be fine.

Can someone purdy please upload this to another host, my only connection is through EVDO and I keep timing out the FTP server...

It is a registry setting discussed multiple times earlier in this thread.

the only post i found is from jeff:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\1 13]
"Default"="Running"
"Open"="memory.exe"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\1 12]
"Open"="iexplore.exe"
"Default"="Web"

thats a good start (which i was already aware of), but what is the open entry for Messages and Contacts.

Delete key 113 entirely and Contacts will come back on its own. Messaging is tmail.exe

Thank you sir! Been using your latest rom and its been working flawless! Bluetooth works perfect as far as I can tell. It connects to my car perfectly. Thank you for you work.

zentor 05-21-2007 02:14 PM

wmodem

Can someone confirm their wmodem is working via usb? I get a com open error and I do not have any bluetooth devices configured. If it is workin for you and wouldn't mind posting your wmodem (/windows/) file for me that would be great!

Thanks,

Zen

Just a tip for anyone that reads the whole thread before installing the new ROM for Sprint Apaches, unlike Jeff's first clean & simple 3.5 pre-release ROM, this one wipes out eveything in the Extended ROM (not just the .CAB files, but also program previously installed there) - I guess because the .CAB files are no longer needed as they are built into the ROM.

My problem is that I don't remember what programs I installed to the Extended ROM versus main memory - oh well - at least the new Sprint Backup orgram works so I did not have to reinstall everything else. Eventually I will figure out what was isntalled there when they don't work.

So if you plan to restore from the clever new Sprint Backup designed to account for changes/upgrades in the ROMS, rather than reinstalling, you should make a backup of the programs installed to the Extended ROM.

However, having to reinstall a few programs is a small price to pay for such a fantastic new ROM - Thanks, Jeff!

On another issue - the soft key assignments to "Web" and "Running Programs" rather than Contacts" and "Messaging", I have not tried the registry fixes described above, but Tweak UI also allows you to change the soft key assignments.
