What have you noticed to work better? What problems are you having with this rom you didn't have with the 'Simple for any apache rom'?

Run this cab file to get the VM clear button (it's from the Sprint extrom).

brightedge 03-07-2007 11:53 AM

Hey! I was looking for that! I ended up using wideawake's no junk ext rom from his 2.2 thread, cutting it up and removing the powerICON and removebattery cabs... works like a charm!

Thanks chill!

car_lost 03-07-2007 04:46 PM

is anyone having trouble installing .net cf 2.0? it goes to install and i get an error at the end.

i tried saving it to the extended rom and to the device, neither worked.

I would have a charge on my phone and when i go to bed just set it on my night table for an alarm clock. I'd wake up in the morning and battery is still at 100%. Now I have to recharge a couple of times a day. I haven't loaded up on software other than what I like to have on my Today screen which is Treo PicDialer, rlcalender, and Today Agenda. I have my backlight turned 1 tic from off. Here's an example, battery level at 60%, I receive a phone call and talk for about 7 minutes, check battery level and it's down to 30%. I have two phones here and they both do the same thing. Any ideas?

no MMS fix as of yet. Im having the same problem with battery life.. i was down to 20% by 10 this morning.

Yea, I found the source of my battery drain. It's ActiveSync!!! I remembered that there was a fix for this that I used after upgrading ROM to 2. Dug it out of pdaphonehome and used it and now I have fantastic battery life. Here's the post:

Hi Guys;
I think I have a solution to the Battery drain problem with the XV6700 PDA phone. It looks like Ative sync is trying to come on and sync draining the power from our units. Talked to a verizon tech. who provided the available info. Hope it helps. Sure has been an irritant not being able to trust my phone. Here's the instructions:

Go to program files
Go to active sync
Go to menu
Go to add server source (add a fake server and settings)
Once that is finished
Go to Schedule and set to manual
Go to options and delete exchange server from options

Working good so far. For the first time I have had 90% power all day long. Always before it would go down to 60% power or less in one day with no phone calls or gaming.

Please note that some have reported this "trick" is not compatible with the NEW Sprint AKU2/MSFP Rom update. Others have reported it works with the ROM update if you turn off the network time sync under phone settings

Hope this helps anyone else with short battery life.

What error are you getting? What ROM are you using? Most 3.5 ROMs already have it installed.

psychotic 03-07-2007 10:52 PM

I install "everything but device drivers, stuff that sets alarms and Today screen plugins" etc.... basically anything that does not start up WITH the phone on my SD card. some people have told me a lot of programs don't work when you install to the card, but I have had no troubles. If I follow these steps, do I gain anything by unlocking the "extended rom" if I do not use it anyways? Is there a better way to use the extended rom space to allow the device to run faster/smoother??

rsuddath 03-08-2007 12:17 AM

I have had thsi ROM installed for 3 days now and it looks great. No problems so far but have not activated Sprint service yet. No problems connecting via USB to activesync (but I am just copying files, not sync'ing any data. It is clearly faster and smoother than the 2.2 ROM that I upgraded from.

The only feature that I am missing is voicedial. I know that most people have purchased Microsoft Voice Command but I can't justify it's cost and I actually use the voice dial program. Is there any way to install it?

Thanks to everyone involved in this project, great work!

car_lost 03-09-2007 11:08 AM

just wanted to post and say i am extremely happy with this rom. thanks jeff... hope to see more updates in the near future.

lockup

I've been running this ROM for a couple days. No additional apps at all. I've been getting a lockup about once a day and have to reset.

The only thing I can think of could be that I have mail attachments set to storage card and there is a problem in there somewhere.

car_lost 03-09-2007 04:04 PM

i havent had any lock-ups and i've installed a few apps that i use regularly.

GaRsNoW 03-09-2007 04:07 PM

Thanks for the AWESOME ROM!!! Only a few common erros:

No battery indicator
Battery drain is HUGE! I have to charge 2+ times a day
MMS not working.

Ive been reading the entire post, and havent found a solution. If anyone has anything....let me know! thanks

And thanks again jeff for the rom, and your fast responses to my questions

car_lost 03-09-2007 04:22 PM

i installed MMS after the fact and it works perfectly.

Won't this conflict with the existing pre-installed version?

I guess not because I installed it and it works fine.

Jmckinney1976 03-09-2007 10:55 PM

For all of you who are reporting battery drain, have you tried going in to your phone settings under "Time Synchronization" and remove the check for "Time synchronize with mobile network automatically." If not ActiveSync still runs in the background and drains the battery.

david279 03-10-2007 10:17 AM

I tried to install that mms app and now my mms is broken. where did you install it to you're storage card?

ok it works. just not thru the outlook plugin. I have to send thru pics and video app.

I installed it into my extended rom. i've sent picture mails to other carriers and they received it fine. they got the link to the picture and viewed it.

Christopher Price 03-12-2007 03:47 AM

It looks like Terminal Services (Remote Desktop) Client was removed. That is a core part of WM 5 and there isn't any replacement.

I think this app should be re-added in an update since it's essential for many that shelled out for Remote Desktop on their PCs...

Well done otherwise on the ROM.

dave99 03-12-2007 04:46 PM

I'm also seeing much faster battery drain than the colonels 3.3 I was using previously.

tnynyn 03-12-2007 08:04 PM

love the rom. quick question, how do I setup hotmail with this? I tried going to NEW ACCOUNTS... > then tried to AUTO CONFIG but after that, it just stays at that screen w/ status completed. If I clicked next, then I have to do it manually which hotmail doesnt give settings for. Anyone get Hotmail to work w/ this rom?

boubert 03-13-2007 05:43 AM

msn is no longer a pop3 mail service so i dont think you can they want 20$ for the prog

1oddmanout 03-13-2007 08:53 AM

Point your web browser to miniSphere http://sphere.mobicosm.com/ for a way to access hotmail and yahoo easily.

Ranchosteve 03-13-2007 11:17 AM

I love this rom, but the major battery drain is makeing my phone useless.I have tried the time and activsynce fix, But it still drains my battery like mad.

gameboy213 03-13-2007 01:19 PM

I just installed this rom onto my 6700... a little worried about all the battery life issues I am hearing about... I guess we shall see how mine works.

gameboy213 03-13-2007 01:31 PM

somehow my phone button will not access the phone, and neither will the phone application. I get a

'cprog' is not a valid Pocket Pc Application

So my phone is useless like that.... what can/do I do to fix it? thanks

car_lost 03-13-2007 01:34 PM

did you hard reset after you finished?

gameboy213 03-13-2007 04:33 PM

I hard once... had the problem and then reset 3 times... and after that it started working.... no clue why. But happy now.
But my battery drain is REALLY BAD

car_lost 03-13-2007 04:42 PM

my battery drain is a bit worse than it was on the sprint aku... but not THAT bad that i would complain about it... plus i have always carried a 2nd battery with me so its not a big issue :D

boubert 03-13-2007 07:13 PM

alot af my bat issues were fixed with async trick got even better with old reg edit

HKLM\ControlPanel\Phone\
NewDWord
Value name=Flags2
Hexadecimal=10

MSN Live Messenger

Has anyone else installed Windows Live Messenger? Mine does a DSOD if left connected to the server, just wondering if anyone else had this problem.

tonygilliland 03-14-2007 07:27 PM

Whats up with the battery drain?

I'm getting ready to install this thing, but this battery drain is scaring me. What can possibly cause it with a new rom vs the oem rom. Unless with the new rom somethings always on? I don't know.

strickly_ppc670 03-14-2007 07:33 PM

Small issues, GREAT ROM!

Jeff,

I have been experencing a huge battery drain like most.
I have a PPC-6700 and the life force is being sucked out of it.
I have also noticed a once a day lock up- might be associated with
the MiniSD - I dont know - but there is something going on when
bringing it out of sleep.
The stereo BT works great with the MOTO HT820s- even the for/rew buttons work! One thing I have noticed is that the phone always stated that the Mini SD has just been inserted, and to serch for music...EVEN WHEN IT IS STATIONARY!

THE MMS isnt up, but thats ok- just use the email account.

Other than those little irritants, THE ROM ROCKS!

Any advice you can give, pls do so.
And Please continue doing what you are doing!
IF MS would support their product like we expect them
to, we would be sitting hear chatting about how great our phones are.

Power to the people and those that share their power!

Best Regards,

Strickland

Battery Drain not significantly worse for me

Thanks Jeff for a very good ROM.

I have not experienced the battery drain probs others have. I would say this though, when usage is high, the battery does get hit hard. I went through today put in a fresh standart (1350Ma) battery at 7:00AM and now it is 7:45PM and I am showing 80% battery. Admittedly it is a light day for me, about 5 emails on my Exchange account via active sync, about 40 Gmail POP3 mails polled manually 4x today, maybe 8 calls totaling 15 mins, a few games of bubble breaker and solitaire (30 mins), 30 mins of PIE browsing and several instances of cleaning my duplicates and memory hogging apps with Memmaid.

I am running the O2 2.3 app - main memory; Agile Messenger - storage card; Memmaid - extended rom; voice command - extended rom; GmobileSync - storage card; Batti - main memory; Apache Rom Unlocker - main memory.

Perhaps keeping all the apps out of the RAM and running memmaid while shutting down all active applications does it for me.

I run my ActiveSync push 24 hours a day and as long as it is not a 50 email day, the battery seems fine. If I have a day with over an hour of phone calls, it really hammers the battery as well. I have two standard batteries and two extended 2400 batteries but it seems unnecessary..

tonygilliland 03-15-2007 10:40 AM

This rom is awesome. One thing though

After installing this rom, I have to say its nearly flawless. There is absolutely no more battery drain than the norm. I made sure push email is off, I don't use it, and the I believe the IR send/ receive is off. I installed 40 programs in all. Half games and the other half programs. 99% of them run of my storage card. My phone is way more responsive now. The phone key pad is quick, not sluggish like before. I fell like I have a new phone. Jeff your awesome. One thing though is that went I test send a picture mail through mms, its sends, but I don't get it back like before. Any word on that.

Thanks again,
Tony

Jeff Kirvin 03-15-2007 12:28 PM

The battery drain seems to be related to push email. I'm still investigating, but the battery went back to normal on my phone after I changed the schedule in ActiveSync from "As items arrive" to "Every 30 minutes".

sportster44 03-15-2007 02:33 PM

This is terrific! Installed flawlessly, installed all my programs and none are having any hiccups! While I didn't install 40 proggies, I did install over 20 and none were games. The Bluetooth works great, picked up my headset and GPS receiver instantly.

This is as good as a factory upgrade.

Question: Rather than re-install everything from the ground up, would Sprite back up be an option to re-install everything for the next time (WM6)?

car_lost 03-15-2007 02:43 PM

doesnt seem as jeff has has checked in anymore. i hope he comes back when there is an update available and updates this rom :)
