Apache down??

I can't Turn on my phone. When I plug it in a steady red light appears where the normal yellow charging light is.. anyone ever have this problem?

Lord Bricks 02-27-2007 02:22 PM

battery not placed in cavity well. try to resit the battery.

Dmunkey 02-27-2007 03:34 PM

If that didnt fix the problem than your battery has most likley gone bad. If you know any one else with a 6700 try swapping batterys.

bkmass 02-27-2007 03:50 PM

I've tired taking the battery out moving it around to make sure all terminals are lined up & that hsnt worked.. I havent tried a new battery yet, cause I dont know anyone else with one would hate to buy a new one if that wont work either.. But the phone was working perfectly this morning then i put it on the charger & now this

luv2chill 02-27-2007 04:11 PM

Try charging the battery in the cradle. Do you get a red light there too?

Batteries can be had on ebay pretty cheap.

schettj 02-27-2007 04:37 PM

and try plugging your phone in with no battery, then soft reset... if it comes up, then the battery is bad, or worse the charging electronics in the phone is bad.

bkmass 02-27-2007 04:51 PM

with no battery in & plugged in, the light flashes red. Not a good sign huh?

luv2chill 02-27-2007 04:59 PM

This phone won't work without a battery installed--even if plugged in.

my bad... never tried it, just assumed it would! good to know.

bkmass 02-28-2007 09:52 AM

I tried just placing the battery itself on the charger to see if I still would get a red light, but it was green.. i put the battery back in the phone & nothing.. tried charging the unit & steady red light.. Has my phone gone to where ever ppc's go when they die??

Wideawake 02-28-2007 10:00 AM

if u charged the battery alone in the cradle then phone may be gone but I would try aain. Mine done it was and I recovered it by doing that.

edited I'm gonna cuss I signed it wrong if u read it that's not wtf I meant :laughing6:

luv2chill 02-28-2007 11:36 AM

Try pressing down on the battery while it is in the phone. I had a defective 3rd party battery that would only work when I did that. Don't be afraid to press kind of hard... you're wanting to make sure all the pins have good contact.

One thing you may be able to do is take the phone into your provider's store and have them test it. Tell them you want to try another battery.

Do you have insurance? If not the phone has a one year warranty via UT Starcom.

bkmass 02-28-2007 09:22 PM

Well thanks fellas but it appears I have a fancy paper weight.. I bought it off ebay so no insurance.. I'm about to dissect this bad boy and see what makes her tick.

boubert 03-01-2007 12:16 AM

bad usb connector had that happen on my 3rd phone

choccy 07-18-2007 03:05 AM

Anyone else get this?

Until about an hour ago my PPC-6700 was working fine, now it won't power up, and when I put it on USB power the power light comes on solid red. Without the battery, blinking red. I haven't been able to wake it with any key or reset combo.

I've got another at home so I'll swap batteries in the morning. Is there anything else to try?

Sprint are really going to love me if this proves to be dead. It'll be our third replacement unit in a month  (the other 2 were my wife's, this 6700 is a year old now.)

luv2chill 07-18-2007 04:13 AM

I would definitely suspect the battery, so swapping with a known good one is the right thing to try. I don't have any other suggestions so I'll just wish you luck :)

saqer 07-18-2007 07:38 PM

wipe the contacts on the battery and phone with a cloth. Remove battery and try recharging separately in cradle. This happens to my 2600 mah ebay polymer battery when i take it out but when I leave it in cradle for like 5 minutes it starts charging again.

Actually, I've had my phone plugged into a car charger and switched batteries without the phone resetting. It was a previous phone (with the red Sprint logo), but I distinctly remember doing it and being surprised that it worked.

I just tried it with a home charger- the phone stayed on for about 5 seconds before turning off. And then I got a flashing red light.

The contacts are good. The battery is good, I swapped it out in to another phone, worked perfectly, and the other phone's battery didn't get mine working. Doesn't seem to be anything I can do to get this phone to boot.

Any other suggestions before I make the 40 mile schlep to the Sprint store to have them take a look (I have the total protection plan, the $7/month one)?

choccy 07-20-2007 10:09 PM

For those playing along at home.. I was unable to get the phone to wake up. I took it in to the Sprint store this afternoon, explained what the problem is and what I had already done to try and fix it (ie, swap out battery with another working phone, charge battery separately, etc.) and was told it would be an hour, so I left.

Came back over an hour later and was told that the phone wasn't working because the battery was dead  I told the guy to take it back and try to actually look at it this time. Another 20 minutes later they came out from the back with a shiny new PPC-6700 :)

This is the third new 6700 my wife and I (2 for her, 1 for me) have had in the past month. Gotta love total coverage plans :D

Now to go and install some real software on it.. Kitchen 1.0.2 here I come :)
(I hope they don't ever figure out I had Kitchen 1.0.0 on the last phone before it died.. at least I know it wasn't the Kitchen that killed it, since I had been running it for a few days prior to that.)

Apache Down.. user in need of BACK UP!!

Ok, so I come across the AKU 3.5 andI download and begin to update the rom immediately. This being my second rom update I had no worries about how smooth the transition would be.. especially after readingsuch great reviews.

I sync and be the process when I get a businss call that required me to take ms away for a bit. Some time has gone by when my 4 year oldcomes in with my xv6700 in her hand. My PDA has been a totally vegetitative state since then.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get the wm5 back on the rom? My PC nor Windows Mobile Device Center even recognizes the device at this point. Any assistance anyone can provide would be wonderful!

Christian

ImCoKeMaN 07-22-2007 11:39 PM

First thing to try is put the phone in bootloader (power, notes (tape button) and soft reset at once). Then connect it to the PC and try running the stock rom update exe file for your device. That will work in most cases like this.

Re:

ICM, thanks for the posted reply... My vista machine nor my xp machine will no longer recognize my xv6700. I flashed the rom and screen now reads:

SD Download
= USB =

Sections = 0

Download
Completed

CheckSum OK!

100%
v1.02

Any further help would greatly be appreciated.

first remove sd card, then go to bootloader, and flash rom..

btw what your miniSD size? can you dump it with ntrw? I like to know whats on it..

get ntrw here:
ftp://ftp.tw.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/4.0/tools/ntrw.exe
ftp://ftp.funet.fi/.m/mirrors3/ftp.o...tools/ntrw.exe
ftp://ftp.freebsdchina.org/pub/OpenB...tools/ntrw.exe

ntrw howto:
ntrw.exe read file drive:
ntrw read sd_dump.bin [your sd drive, eg: f: g: or k:]
example:
ntrw read sd_dump.bin g:

ntrw will dump you sdcard contain in raw format, if you dont mind please dump it and upload to ftp.. thanks

tiermann 07-23-2007 12:26 PM

Renyssance (and anyone else)...
You should only use XP for flashing. Vista will only get you stuck in the bootloader mode. You might already know this, but I thought I'd say it since it wasn't mentioned in this thread yet and you have both available to you.

Check out helmi_c's advice above. ^^^

Renyssance 07-23-2007 01:09 PM

helmi.. as you suggested I removed the miniSD [1.0GB] and attempted to start the device in bootloader mode. All I got was ascreen hat read:

Serial

v1.02

this was until I connected the device to the cradle of course at which the word serial then changed to USB. Granted that this case was performed from my vista machine, I will attempt to get a different result from my X machine. Tell me, does ntrw require that my PDA be at least detected by the o.s.? if so I think I may be in need of another option.

tiermann 07-23-2007 01:15 PM

USB.. v1.02 is all that it should read when in bootloader mode and connected to the PC, so that's correct. That's exactly what you want it to say before running the flash utility.

ntrw is done with your windows pc... the thing is, hv you ever d2s your device lately, or something?, it seems that ur sd-card is filled with something that will flash to device after it restarting/enter bootloader, thats why i ask you to dump it.. and thats why you cant go to bootloader if you didn't remove your sd card first.. there's something on ur sdcard...

well 1gb sd card? well you can forget about ntrw then, its nothing usefull for you just for my curiosity...:)

you better use xp for flashing... it should flash allright...

Renyssance 07-23-2007 01:47 PM

Ok tiermann & helmi..

I appreciate the help. I will flash and install from the XP machine. Is there a particular flash utility that would be of use here? And once the rom is flashed successfully should I then be able to load the rom update via Ative Sync or is there another option?

luv2chill 07-23-2007 01:50 PM

It is normal for your PC to not detect the device in the "usual" way when it is in bootloader... but if you go into Device Manager you should see a device called "Microsoft USB Sync" under the "Windows CE USB Devices" heading.

The fact that the PPC screen changes to "USB" from "Serial" when you plug it in means that it's seeing the computer just fine. But bootloader mode doesn't trigger activesync so maybe that's what is fooling you.

I would suggest just running the latest official ROM update package from your carrier (you can download it at www.utstar.com). That should re-flash all 3 ROMs and get you back to a "known good" configuration.

Then you can try to flash the custom again (and this time keep your daughter away from it :D)

Renyssance 07-23-2007 02:27 PM

Hmmm.. I just checked the device manager in Vista and indeed it is showing it as you said. So I have the rom update from UTSTARCOM but it seems running it thru Mobile Device Center is out of the question.. am I on the wrong machine or should I be able to do it on either?

My daughter is in the living room playing pokemonso I have time to get this done right, maybe even blink a few times with no worries.. lol

tiermann 07-23-2007 02:38 PM

The rom update doesn't run through ActiveSync or Mobile Device Center. It flashes directly to your pocketPC. You will need to do this from your XP computer or it will fail.

Renyssance 07-23-2007 02:40 PM

Im on it then... thanks a lot everyone for your help. I will be back in a few to detail my success or failure.. [please be success]

Renyssance 07-23-2007 05:21 PM

Well my friends..

I am victorious with all of your help and the original WM5 os and all its flaws are back in command. Again I thank you and ask that your wisdom be bestowed upon me again. So installing AKU 3.5 is a bad idea? Should I do the previous updates first?

tiermann 07-23-2007 06:16 PM

It's not a bad idea if you feel comfortable with flashing now. You know how to put it in bootloader mode first and all of that from your experience :).

Flashing back to the original ROM was mostly to make sure your hardware was still working with a ROM we know should work. The original ROM also contains the radio and extended portions which most (if not all) of the ones put out here do not. That way _everything_ gets put back to defaults.

Renyssance 07-23-2007 06:38 PM

I was comfortable flashing before but Im ultra comfy now :) Any suggestions or successes on the correct ROM hacks usd for the Verizon xv6700? I have attempted to install the so called Clean & Simple AKU 3.5 update but no success. There have been a few othersthat I've tried prior but most were deemed incompatibale.

Like always I'm open for suggestions.. in the meantime I will continue the hunt! I just want to say that everyone on this forum are certified awesome! Thanxagain for all the help.
