External Rom Full, How do I clear it ?

My External Rom still has the programs that I installed in it and it survived a reflashing of the phone...
So how do I clear the external rom without losing what my current data or having to reflash again ?
Do I need any of the other items in the external rom ?

Why not just delete the apps you put in there. Then again, you could delete it all (everything) and then hard reset the phone and let the carrier customization downloads tkae place which would put the needed .cabs back in the ROM.
