Note: This was on XP Pro. It has never done this for me with Vista. |
Re: PPC 6700 as WiFi adapter?
Ok, so I just tried it on Vista and it shows up as a 10mb LAN adapter. Not wireless. I looked through the kitchen to see what I could have possibly added. Only thing I can guess is the tethering options. I think I might have installed all three of those.

Re: PPC 6700 as WiFi adapter?
is this suppose to create a "Wireless Network Connection" in my Network Connections? Is it suppose to be through the default activesync connection that usually gives off a non working ip something along the lines of 169.... Or am i suppose to start the Internet Sharing program? It's not starting automatically when i press Start ICS, and when i manually start it, it dials #777 and connects me through evdo.
Not exactly sure what type of connection i'm suppose to be looking for. |

In Vista it creates a "Local Area Connection" in the network connections. It connects at 10mb. I didn't establish a profile with Mobile Device Center, either. |

Re: PPC 6700 as WiFi adapter?
Okay guys, here it is in simple terms...
I am running a Sprint PPC-6700 using a WM5 AKU 3.5 ROM. My PC is a Windows Vista Home Premium laptop. 1: Download that ICSControl app. 2: Unzip it. 3: Copy unzipped file to your PPC-6700. 4: Run it on the 6700. 5: Public Interface is something like tiacxwln (at least on mine) for the WiFi. 6: Private Interface is something like RNDISFN (at least on mine) for the USB. 7: Check Set Private IP (mine is 192.168.2.1). This will be your default gateway on your PC. 8: Make sure Allow Suspend Mode, DHCP Server, and DNS Proxy are all checked. 9: Make sure your phone's WiFi is connected to your network and you can browse the internet with it. 10: Connect the USB cable to your PC. 11: Your PC should install the drivers and then list a new connection in your LAN connections. 12: Right click that LAN connection and rename it to something you will know (I named mine PPC-6700). 13: Right click that new connection and left click properties. 14: Click on IP version 4 (TCP/IP) and click properties. 15: Select use the following IP address. 16: For the IP address, type in something 1 number greater than your private IP on the phone (my private IP is 192.168.2.1 so in my TCP/IP here I put 192.168.2.2). 17: Subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0 (this should autopopulate for you if you click in here). 18: Default gateway will be whatever you put in your phone for private IP Address (mine is 192.168.2.1). 19: Put in your preferred DNS servers (I just used the ones from my home broadband connection). 20: Close out of all of that. 21: On the phone, click save, then Stop ICS, then Start ICS. 22: On the computer, right click the PPC-6700 network connection (or whatever you named it) and click diagnose (or repair in XP). If using XP, it should repair and you'll be on the internet after. If using Vista, click on reset the connection. After it resets, you should be on the internet. That's how you set it up and get it up and running the first time. After you have done this the first time, the second time you should be able to just connect to your WiFi (on your phone), plug in your phone, and start the ICSControl app, and you'll be online. This is exactly what I did on my Vista machine and I am posting this right now on my laptop, using my phone as a wireless network adapter, thru my wireless home network. Huge thanks to everyone who helped me out here. EDIT: This may very well work without coding a static IP address in your TCP/IP on your PC. I don't know, I didn't try it that way. I put in a static, and it worked, so I left well enough alone. I didn't do much tinkering at all with this. I just did these steps the first time I downloaded the ICSControl and it worked, and that was the extent of my tinkering (don't fix it if it ain't broke). So you may find a better/easier way to use it than this if you tinker, but this way should work for you if you don't want to experiment. |
