or do you guys think taking a backup with spb backup, loading the new rom verizonguy will post hopefully and then restoring the backup will retain all the changes verizonguy made in the rom and at the same time get me all my programs back?

Nope that won't work. you would be overwriting registry entries.

I figured out the problem with the registry hives. When the console app that rebuilds the hive file tries to build it, it won't allow more than 1 value in a line under a key. This is retarded as the very same app is the one that formatted it that way to begin with...so...that being said, I'm really close to posting my 3.5 rom fixing our problems, but I'm getting carpal tunnel as a result of going through the whole registry and splitting up all the values on to their own lines...I'm about 60% of the way through manually rebuilding it right now.

Sounds like alot of work there, are you using rgucomp to build the hives?

Out of curiosity, why are you manually building them this way?

It was the only way to get the text file back into a hv file. It was annoying as hell.

Good news, vzg 3.5 beta 2 now available for public testing in the ftp. apache/verizonguy/

Did you try the txt-to-hv tools? You just have to seperate Current User registeries into User.txt.

Yeah. I know you had problems with registry stuff last month too. I've been meaning to talk to you about it.

I used mike's batch files to decode the hv files to text which worked fine. I added the REGEDIT4 to the top of the file, saved it in unicode, etc, but when running the batch file to restore, it complained about parsing lines. It was always the first key that had more than one value on one line. I finally realized the only way I was going to finish this rom was by manually changing every value to it's own line under the key. It took hours, but it worked.
