Question I'm getting a general Error message 116 when using kitchen

I am trying to update my PPC 6700 with a rom update using kitchen. After I start the updater my phone goes blank and then Activesnyc disconnects my device from the computer and I get an error message 116 that says please remove the device from the computer perform a soft reset and then run the updater again. Has anyone experienced this problem before? Can anyone make suggestions to rectify this situation?

I have reinstalled Activesync and made sure Kitchen was updated and did a hard reset on the phone as well.

Thanks in Advance

Detail as to what your computer OS is and your bootloader version is would be helpful.

Re: I'm getting a general Error message 116 when using kitchen

My OS is XP. I guess I don't know my bootloader version. Also I need to add that this is my 2nd ppc 6700 that was a nicer one that I bought off ebay. My first phone I have had no trouble updating the rom on it. Also I made sure I updated the rom before I started with kitchen and I experienced no issues with that update.

My progress in the update before the error message is as follows
I start the updater
The phone goes to black
Active Sync disconnects (like when you unplug your phone)
An error message comes up that says unknown usb device
After a couple of beeps like the connecting and disconnecting sounds I get the error message
General Error 116 A problem was encountered..........Please unplug your device and usb cable and perform a soft reset and try the updater again.

I don't know anything about the old fashioned way yet. I am still a newbie to rom updating. Can you advise me on what bootloader mode is and how to get there?

Re: I'm getting a general Error message 116 when using kitchen

to get to BL mode you press both the Power button AND the Record button at the same time AND press and hold the reset button in the bottom of the device for a second ot so and the screen will go dark and say either Serial or USB (depending on if it is connected to the PC or not) and at rhe bottom of the screen will be the version number. You gotta look carefully because the backlight will not come on. To get out you simply just reboot.

Re: I'm getting a general Error message 116 when using kitchen

I have seen the bootloader screen before but didn't know how to purposely make it happen. I will try that this evening. I sure hate having to work during the day when I am trying to resolve this issue. :c(

I know this should be another post maybe, but how would I get started updating the old fashioned way?

Thanks again

Re: I'm getting a general Error message 116 when using kitchen

The older way is finding a custom ROM and installing it and then doing all your apps installs one at a time and doing all your regedits/tweaks one at a time.

The Con is it is much slower and more work. The Pro is you learn more and know exatly what is getting done to your device and control all of it.

As for having to work in the day and trying to resolve an issue, I work in an office and it is a bit easier for me. I bring my things to work to work on while I am here.

Re: I'm getting a general Error message 116 when using kitchen

Hopefully, you don't have bootloader version 2.04/2.05. Those are bad ones and you will have to follow the downgrade instructions here:

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=7820

Were you flashing a standard ROM or custom 6.0/6.1? Sounds like the ROM is too big.
