How to Disable EVDO?

I am trying to extend my battery life as much as I can and I would like to know if disabling EVDO (which I am not buying) would increase my battery life? I am using the 1x though, because it is available even though EVDO is not in my area.

So what MSL code can I use that will disable EVDO but not 1x??

Data usage, whether its evdo or 1x, will cause the same battery drain. Besides, why would you need to disable something if it isnt available in your area? And your phone only has one MSL code which is associated with your ESN number. I'm not aware of any programming code that would allow you to disable EVDO, but I think you can do it through a registry hack.

Not because it is not available but mainly to boost my life if it would. Also I do not want to be accidently charged for EVDO when I do happen to drive into an area (one hour away.. twice a week) that does have EVDO.

Whether you're accessing data at 1x speeds or EVDO speeds, it costs the same. Data usage is data usage.

If you really want to force 1x....then check:
Phone/menu/option/service/scroll down to see if you have the "Mode of Operation" if you dont....then you need to do the hack.

Edit at own Risk!!!!

HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting

Change the option HiddenPreferenceMode from 1 to 0

Then go to Phone/menu/option/service/and check in the list, "Mode of Operation" should be at the bottom. You have 3 choices, Hybrid, EVDO, and 1X.
Once you have checked the box and hit ok, you will need to reboot, and then the phone should switch to 1x only.

Re: How to Disable EVDO?

I seriously doubt that I purchased 1x AND EVDO for speeds for $10 a month. I purchased their PCS Vision plan and it is my understanding that, that does not include EVDO speeds. But I do have "unlimited data usage".

Thanks for the info Unknown Zone! Also there is someone who claimed that by disabling EVDO on their RAZR it boosted their battery life.

If you have Sprint Vision, you have EVDO - no additional charge.

They phased that plan out about two years ago, so I assume you updated phones.

If you are in a fringe EVDO /strong 1X area and use data, switching to 1X will help your battery life. If you want to allow EVDO again, be sure to pick hybrid, since voice will not work on EVDO.

Well has anyone heard anyone getting any type of unlimited data plan for just $10 from sprint??? because I know that is what I have and that is what I am paying, even though they originally were going to charge me much more until I told them I could not make use of those additional data services due to my area only having 1X and I brought them down to $15, but then told them I don't care about their streaming video service that I cannot make use of... so they then knocked off another $5 =)

Yes I have and I called about it a yr ago...if I can remember they told me that it was only for "Power Phones", I believe like a Nextel type of phones and the 67 was not consider one of them.

Guess you just weren't talking to the right sprint representative ;), admittingly though they did over charge for a few months on the family plan I am on with my parents and sister. I have had two separate instances where sprint told me they did something when they did not.

1st I thought I lost my phone and I called them to deactivate my phone until I can find it
Then I found the phone and called them up to reactivate only to find out they never de-activated it. Thankfully it was not stolen but I would have taken them to court had it been stolen with a $1,000+ sprint bill attached to it.

I know from reading from others that Sprint or whoever will charge you regardless of whether the phone was stolen, because until you deactivate they will hold you responsible.

2nd I told them I wanted the same $10 PCS vision plan my sister was just set up on like 2 weeks earlier and they screwed it up and then ended up over charging us by like $200 over the next few months. They are discounting the bill now some for a little while but not the entire bill.

I have learned two things from dealing with sprint and that is if you can setup and configure your phone yourself by using programs to get the proper code so you can enter in the MSL codes to make changes or swap numbers around then it is worth doing. Otherwise it is very likely that you will end up with an Indian speaking person who has no idea what it is you want to do even though you have explained it to them 5 different times in a few different ways. Guess it would be helpful to learn Indo-Ayran, maybe I should learn a few keywords that would get their attention.

The other thing I have learned is always call back later the same day to make sure that if you had to make changes through calling them that they have or are actually going to go through and always take down everyones names. Additionally I have been meaning to even ask where it is that they are located.
