CUSTOM ROM INSTALLERS - Compiled for you!

Links down for a temporary revamp of this.

Updated...

Sorry for being gone for so long.. I used my work computer for a rom bank and lo and behold, everything was deleted one day. Although my "work" paled in comparison to those on the development side, I kind of gave up.

Then...

I fell in love with the dark side. N95 User.

It seems that this thread is no longer needed, as most people are able to make their own roms.

Thanks all for the information and fun last year.

jamesus 02-15-2007 06:08 PM

Might need to edit the link to the Helmi 3.5 ImCoKeMaN R2 installer...

konceptz 02-15-2007 06:14 PM

Fixed. Thanks Jamesus

Can I put yours up?

jamesus 02-15-2007 06:18 PM

Very nice. And I like the links to the discussion threads as well.

If you would like, you can link mine. Right now, it is just the base 3.5 ROM from helmi's kitchen, but I will be cooking in the next few days and plan to release one early next week.

Also, do you mind posting a "how to create an installer" on the Wiki or here? Thanks!

konceptz 02-15-2007 06:21 PM

Yeah np!

konceptz 02-15-2007 06:27 PM

Ah, I'll leave it out for now if it's the base. I think I have that one at the top. I'm on the wiki right now setting something up

colonel 02-15-2007 06:29 PM

no love

Perasite 02-15-2007 06:33 PM

That's great. I've had so many people ask "why do I have to run the MaUpgrade_noID.exe? I didn't have to do that with Sprint's ROM." Or "what's it mean when you say 'un-rar'" Now I can just point people to this! :D

konceptz 02-15-2007 06:40 PM

Not yet colonel! Work got busy for a moment. It'll be up soon

Hi thanks a lot for making these installers, after I've downloaded all of them , I have WinXp and double click on the .EXE's and I get a brief DOS command prompt window and nothing happens, I appreciate any help.

Thanks

I'll do some checking, I hope it's not a problem with paths, cause then I'd have to do them all over.... Anwyays, I'll check when I get home.

Yeah, I had the same problem in testing the .exe for mine. When I right-click and extract the .exe I get some CRC errors.

Installers no running

I dont believe is a path problem, all of them downloaded fine but they just dont run, I get a command pront window for 1 second and then nothing. Is there some other steps involved to run this installers? I just put the phone in Bootloader mode and try to run your custom installers right? Im already have Helmi 3.3 installed.

I think the path they are referring to is in the installer package itself, not the path to the FTP

konceptz 02-15-2007 07:29 PM

I just tried this while running out the door from work.. I am pretty sure it is because I was using ftp.exe to u/l them. I used it because I didn't want to install another ftp program, but I will either recompile them when I get home, or just send them again with a better program.

Stupid windows ftp.exe always messing things up.

The files work fine on my system, but after downloading them they no longer carry the same icon file I installed them with, it's a CRC u/l error I think.

aguaron 02-15-2007 07:34 PM

Great! I cant wait to try this Roms, I'll be waiting and looking forward to the fix.

Do you know if you'll have it today?

Thanks! :P

konceptz 02-15-2007 07:50 PM

yeah I should be able to get them up and running tonight, depending if the gf lets me have some "me" time.... :P

aguaron 02-15-2007 07:52 PM

Lol, that's my goal in life.

Except replace "making it easy" with "always scoring"
and replace "for the n00bs" with "hot models".

Then it'd be true.

konceptz 02-16-2007 11:30 AM

All right, Link back up and working perfectly. D/L away!

konceptz 02-16-2007 12:35 PM

helmi_Apache_kitchen_3.5_ImCoKeMaN_R3.exe added.

Alwaysbelieve1 02-16-2007 01:23 PM

I added my installer so you wouldn't have to. ;)

Thanks for putting this good thread together.

konceptz 02-16-2007 01:48 PM

Thanks always, I've updated the link.

konceptz 02-16-2007 06:00 PM

*List will be updated constantly*
Authors, please let me know if you do not want me to do this after you complete a ROM.

Hey Conceptz, thank you for the effort!

Btw, is it possible to have something (a thread/a guide) that would give the specs of each of these roms so that 6700 users can decide which roms to install ? Like a list of included apps/ known issues or something similar.

For instance, should I go with Yuma, Helmi 3.5, alwaysbelieve, colonel 3.3b3 or 3.5? At least, in my opinion, it would answer most users' questions.

Thanks!

jayz11 02-17-2007 07:00 PM

konceptz, this is a great contribution! While the experts are cooking away and doing all sorts of mysterious hard to understand things efforts like yours are important for newbs to keep their sanity.

A few questions:

1. Can you tell me how you created these installers. From looking at them I'm assuming you just created an SFX with RAR and put in these comments?

Setup=MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
TempMode

2. Related to that, if I wanted to create a "complete" installer with Radio, ROM, and EXT_ROM, could I just include all three files in the package: radio_.nbf, nk.nbf, and ms_.nbf and MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe would be able to handle them?

(FYI if anyones interested, I was thinking of using the radio_.nbf from the latest official spring/utstarcom ROM. For ext_rom, I was going to start with a blank one and add only cabs for apps I want to install-that I either couldn't build an OEM for or there wouldnt be any advatange to using an OEM for. For the sprint stuff that is normally in ext_rom Ive used the no junk SprintExtendedOEM created by SchettJ which like many others (eg. sfaure) I've been cooking into all my kitchen builds to save space)

3. Finally, i'm sure its explained elsewhere but whats the difference between MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe and ROMUpgradeUt.exe? I've seen most people use MaUp but others (I think sfaure is the only one I noticed) use ROMUp to flash their cooked ROMs. The official official sprint ROMs use ROMUp I think.

Would appreciate anyones comments. Thanks.

konceptz, Saridnour has an updated version of his ROM now ver r4. Just though I would let you know so you could update the original post and the ftp site. It looks nice so far and is running pretty quick.

Yeah, although the link to the discussion usually gives everything right out in front.

Jayz11

I just created a SFX (Self Extracting file) using winrar, added an Icon and told it to run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe after extraction.

I don't use command lines, although it probably would be faster with a batch file. There just isn't much point to writing one at this time.

Wideawake 02-19-2007 10:18 AM

or u can just save the settings under a new setting in winrar named rom installers or something......that's what I have done. ;) so it makes it quick and easy.

helmi_c 02-20-2007 05:34 AM

a very cool idea konceptz... really appreciate it :thumbleft:

konceptz 02-20-2007 12:07 PM

Added Verizon Guy's 3.5 with fixed dialer app.

konceptz 02-21-2007 04:11 PM

Hey wideawake, do you think this thread, if constantly updated, would deserve a sticky?

I hate to keep bumping it, since there should never be much response to this thread, but I think it's somewhat valuable for beginners or 1st timers to this scene.

jamesus 02-21-2007 04:29 PM

i think that it is a very good resource for begninners who do not know how to flash their ROMs without using an exe file.
