WM6 and Beta Testers

Well I have some news on WM6. I meet with two guys yesterday (2/13) at the Vista/Office launch here in Detroit, MI.
One of the guys was the local area Enterprise Rep from Microsoft Mobile Group and the other guy was the Global Account Manager from HTC out of Schaumburg, IL. Just for those that do not know this but should understand this fact. The PPC 6700 is made by HTC, not UTStarcom or Audiovox.

Now with that said, there will be no AKU released with the updates to WM6 or patches! In fact the version will be Windows Mobile 6 not 3.5 or 3.3. Now I did learn that WM6 did ship to vendors a few months ago (Well we all new that) and on Feb 13, 2007 the first phones with WM6 were shipped/released to the public overseas.

Now the word is from HTC is that Sprint will have the PPC 6800 in the stores end of May – first part of April here in the US. Not sure on the other carriers of when they plan to roll the unit out. Now for people that are having issues on Windows Vista with Sync. That is due to ship at the end of the month. The current sync with mobile devices in Windows Vista is a (Beta) that was sent out on ship/release day. So look for that update soon. Some people will that little to know problems and other will have issues. Just a FYI as well. The Dial Up Networking that everyone wants to work so bad will be fixed at that point. The issue is not just the phone and the drivers there, but also on the desktop systems as well. So for those people that are getting upset and find it not working that is why, It will soon.

On a Side note. My company is going to start offering technical support to PDA users via a remote software that we have built onto a ROM. No it is not vnc or anything like that. Also it will not allow you to connect to your desktop or PDA to PDA. But it does allow us (pdaTech.net) to remote and fix PDA’s OTA. Also we will be offering a software push service. More details to come soon.

At this time we are looking for 10 to 20 people that are willing to give the ROM a test run. What the ROM has:

Windows Voice Command
PPC-Hacks
RAR
Clean Temp
Task Manager
TCPMP
Windows Media (Crossbow Skinned)
psShutXP (Crossbow Skinned)
Crossbow Theme
Sprint Configuration (PRL 20225)

Also frees up 9MB and allows you to use the space of your ExtROM. We rename it to Extended Memory
Sorry we are working with the other Carries on the Ext Memory configurations. But for those willing to help out just PM me.

Yeah I was wondering the same, the title said WM6 and beta testers. But the whole idea is based on non WM6.

tell you're HTC buddy that while I'm more than willing to upgrade to the 6800 I will not be doing so until the software is out there in a similar kitchen format.

I've lived enough h#ll trying to make my phone work decently with the paltry support from the corporate geeks. Their method/mentality of fixing things is "dont give any updates till its all perfect, and in the meantime lets have another meeting .... cycle 12 months.". Well this is software and hardware. Fact is it will not ever be perfect. And we all end up being "early adopters". They need to start setting up much more robust fix / patch plans, IMHO.

Me, I'm letting the corporate geeks spend their time munking around. I'll stick w/ PPC-Geeks any day.

As for you're offer, well I hope it works for you. And there are a number of people that may indeed be willing to pay for you're support. I'm afraid though that the PPC-GEEKS way is gonna serve my needs far better.

understood helmi. Not planning on doing / releasing anything wm6 based. As usual msft is spending more money trying to protect their investment than just focusing on making it more useable.

Nevertheless I will be looking to fix my phone any which way I can to make it better. And when they "relax" enough that the user community can actually make their released stuff work well, and move on to their next "secretive" release, we'll all get better and better functioning phones.

Sorry about the mix up...

Sorry about the mixup. Maybe I should rename the title.

Yes I would agree to the following facts.

The ROM that we are testing is a built ROM with the added apps. Now the Microsoft Voice Commnad will require the user to copy there exe to the phone much like some of the other roms in kitchens I have seen all over the net. So we are not giveing away software you must purchace. This ROM is all configured for Sprint PCS and allows the Extended ROM area to be used for software installs or just extra space. Yes I know nothing new there other then the fact that the rom has all the configurations required by sprint for OTA updates and PRL updates built in. Also makes sure your phone is at 20225 prl.

As for the Microsoft and HTC people, trust me I had a long sit down with them. I'm just as mad about the updates and how Mircosoft and HTC have this worked out. But as it was explained to me the following is the problem.

Microsoft sells the Windows Mobile to HTC or Whoever is building it into there phones. The carrier ie. Sprint, Verizon, Telcom or whoever take a few months to change or modify the OS to do only what they wish it to do. Thus some of the BT issues and such. When Microsoft Ships the OS (RTM) it does everything. The carriers are the ones stripping it down. Also updates in the Windows Mobile 6 will be coming from Microsoft, not the carries. Now this does not mean total rom pushes, just updates and patches for the apps on the device.

I agree, I'm tired of getting a new phone just to get a OS that is current and works with out bugs. As for what we are testing I can and will post the install and go that route insted. The ZIP must be unpacked and then copy the exe to the device and run. Below is a list of applications that we can use to test with. Please keep in mind this pushes the software not any registration information at all. So if you want to keep the software the you have requested you will need to buy the keys or the registration info. The service that we will be starting soon does simply this. You can buy the software and we will push it to your phone. If the phone dies or you get a new phone just login and push it back to your phone. At this time we have it setup to check to see if the application you requested is installed and if it is the system does nothing. If it is not on the device it will download and install (asking you were to put it of course). Also we will be offering a option that will keep a copy of your most current backup file so it can be pushed back if ever needed.

JIM

So that we are clear no free Voice Command here. Also no free apps, You will still need to get your own keys until we have the site up and selling applications. Also this is just a short list of a few we have over 150 apps on the servers. You name it we can push it out.

SPB Weather v1.62
Phone Alarm v1.58
PIEPlus v2.2
QMark Reader v3.0
Resco Explorer v5.42
Monopoly v1.01
Battleship 1.63
Sprint MMS
Pocket Artist v2.3
SPB Backup v1.5.1
True Toolbar v2.7.2
Pocket Caster v2.7.11
Network Analyzer v1.0
CoolCamera 1.14b2
IM+ Mobile Instant v4.29

Was not able to get the exe,zip or rar to post so placed a link to the Remote software push application. This is not a ROM!

or

PM me with software request for push Include you cell number as that is how the server will see your phone.
