Problem rearing its ugly head since upgrading to 6.1...

Ever since I upgraded my 6700 to WM6.1, I have noticed many bugs and issues. Many of these issues I was able to fix since I am no amateur when it comes to these phones but never encountered this problem before on any PPC I have ever owned...

I gave my PPC to my girlfriend and she told me about the problem for the first time yesterday and I have seen it for myself so I know she's not crazy.

When she is receiving a call, her phone will ring for only a couple of seconds and then the phone will automatically hang up the incoming call sending it to voicemail without her having to press any buttons. I have uninstalled any programs that are designed to filter calls and I have disabled all caller id applications.

Still the problem persists. Speak of the devil, it just did it. Just now, as I was typing this message and it was her Mom.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this or if it is a common problem? I really do not want to have to hard reset the phone as I installed quite a few apps to the phone and did quite a bit of work to it.

Thanks in advance, Dan.

Did you already see the "don't put ringtones on the SD card" threads? That got me once. make sure all ringtones are in main memory.

The only ringtone that I have on the device is located in the "rings" folder under the Windows directory on main memory so it isn't that.

Any other ideas?

Re: Problem rearing its ugly head since upgrading to 6.1...

Nevermind... At least for now. I think the problem with the phone ending calls is not because of the phone but because of the caller trying to call the phone. Turns out they are actually hanging up before the call is answered and complain my girlfriend isn't answering her phone. It seems technology ignorant people still exist, even in today's society...

Thanks anyway guys(and gals),

Dan.

the caller may be hearing more rings on their end than your girlfriend actually recieves when the call is incoming to her phone... if it continues to happen, you can always look into changing the SCI - Slot Cycle Index... what this basically does is decreases the delay in the time your phone begins to ring when a call is coming in.

Yes.. to save battery power, these pda phones only poll the tower something ridiculous, like every 5 seconds.. so when someone calls, there's 5 seconds of ringing before it rings on your 6700.

Changing the SCI to like 1 will make the phone poll the towers every 1 second, but this will eat more battery life.. it's a win/lose or lose/win situation.. =/

Just change SCI to 1 like you suggested. We'll see if it helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. Dan.

Subtle tweaks make all the difference...

changing the SCI to 2 is probably better... or maybe even 3 to save battery life. These things are notoriously hard on battery life. If someone hangs up before the voicemail greeting they are just stupid and you're better off without them lol

Re: Problem rearing its ugly head since upgrading to 6.1...

Still having this rediculous problem... I wasn't able to get ahold of her all day because her phone was automatically rejecting calls. It seems that it is doing it after the phone is in sleep mode or idle for a long time. I think I am going to have to hard reset and see if that helps.

If not, it's back to the original ROM I go...

Re: Problem rearing its ugly head since upgrading to 6.1...

I've been having different but similar dialer/phone issues since upgrading from WM 6.0 to 6.1. Periodically the phone rings once, then the phone call ends. Several times the phone rings once then automatically picks up on speaker - not how it is set up at all. I have made the SCI change to 1. Interestingly enough, I changed the SCI when I was running WM6.0, and it stayed the same after multiple 6.1 flashes, so it is stored in an area of ROM that is not touched by the ROM burning. I haven't traced the problems to a specific component, but a soft reset restores normal answering, so it appears something that is left running is interfering. The bad news is you have to want to troubleshoot it to figure out what the core problem is.
