how to brick a 6700
my usb port on the phone isn't working. I want to take it in, but I have wm6 on it. I need to find a way to make the phone not come on .... or erase the wm6. Any ideas ?

Re: how to brick a 6700
you can downgrade via the sd card...
Not sure how but I have seen threads. I also heard an unfortunate incident of someone accidentally dropping the phone on the ground breaking the screen on the way to bring it to the store. |
Re: how to brick a 6700
i have insurance on the phone..... if i don't break it... i don't have to pay the 50 bucks... so i need it to look like it just quit showing the screen

Re: how to brick a 6700
What about overvolting it... or electronically damaging it? If you can do that without making it look obvious, that might work for you.

Remove Battery. then 3 seconds in the microwave. :violent2:
you're welcome. |
Re: how to brick a 6700
don't forget to remove the battery before you stick it in there though. :)

Re: how to brick a 6700
I resolved this same problem by disassembling my phone & soldering a usb connection to the traces on the circuit board. VERY fine work, but it can be done. I was able to flash back to wm2003 and get my phone exchanged.

Re: how to brick a 6700
eos,
it will make the 6700 one hell of a brick. |
Re: how to brick a 6700
I think there is a way to SD flash it. Stand by, i'm downgrading my 6700 to stock to make a rom dump for you. If it takes i'll rapidshare it for you.

Re: how to brick a 6700
Sorry I took so long, I had to install XP just to get the device to recognize through MTTY but unfortunately it will not let me read the flash. My 4GB card is not recognized on my 6700.
If anyone has access to a smaller card here's the steps you can do to help this guy out. This was taken from Reven on PDAPhoneHome. Quote:

Re: how to brick a 6700
lol if all else fails just give it a quick pop with 120 out of a wall socket using a small gauge wire to the battery terminals it will be dead real quick.. just dont zap yourself.. we use this all the time to get subwoofers replaced from stubborn companies that think our customers are not worth their time.. wanna see the max xmax of your woofer lol... (please be cautious ive been working with electronics for 15 years this is and should be a final resort if all else fails)

Re: how to brick a 6700
You can flash your phone back to the original Rom.... The details are in the Apache 6700 Upgrades forum.... You basically extract 2 files out of the original flash program and load it into a certain folder and run a mentioned flashing program... You give up too soon....guess I almost did too...

Re: how to brick a 6700
I think 2 seconds probably would do it... all you need is for the magnetron to turn on for an instant and it'll fry it. :) I just did it with the 6700 I just got from Asurion... because for some reason after I flashed it, the radio vanished and decided it was going to be from a different region and wouldn't let me flash anymore. Anyway, now it stinks like exploded silicon. So, I think try 2 seconds from now on.

This is why I always get Total Equipment Coverage on my phones... because then I can participate in this form of entertainment.

Re: how to brick a 6700
Look, I just got my phone back today. My service tech couldn't care less if I had a custom rom installed. Heck, they are impressed with the fact that I can do it.

Re: how to brick a 6700
You guys rock! I've had a 6700 for a little over 18 months, purchased on Ebay and with a Square Trade Warranty. It been hacked and modified over and over and was almost perfect, until I dropped it. The screen was toast and I couldn't get it to sync with the laptop. Of course, I denied dropping it, but I was a little hesitant to send it in for inspection without being able to get my data off of it and there was no way to flash it back to original defaults.....so I microwaved it according to the instructions in this thread and then sent it in. Within 5 days I had a full refund of my purchase price back in my paypal account. Thanks for all the help!
