what software are you guys using with these recievers?

sheureka 02-06-2007 08:19 PM

I use iGuidance, but actually lots of the new programs - from google and microsoft - can be used with a gps receiver. It's a cheap(er) way to get into navigation. - sheureka

Yep - windows live search and google maps (for ppc) both take advantage of your GPS, if any, and can show you where you are, and track you as you do door to door driving. Neither is good without a co-pilot (ie, you need someone to watch the bugger as you drive!) and good data coverage along your route - but they are free and you don't need to download maps ahead of time, which works for me.

A car power adapter is almost manditory if you use these, btw.

I have 8 programs on my 6700 that can access my receiver - and with GPSGate I can access them all at the same time. You could also access them all using the builtin GPS manager, but you can't send location without GPSGate, and GPSGate is a lot more stable. I use iGuidance (for regular driving directions), BackCountryNavigator (for offroad navigation), GoogleMaps (for sending my location to other computers), Globe (for no particular reason except it's interesting), AstroNavigator (for skygazing, no matter where I am), Map4PDA (pretty good POI's), Live Search and Navigator2. If anyone has questions just let me know - sheureka

blue i 737

I researched alot because I wanted the best and cheapest.
www.buygpsnow.com sells the blue I 737 for around $70.
I have had it about a week.
It is quick, about 25 seconds from turn on to locate.
Its precision has been outstanding, and it is able to be used while inside.
Every other Gps I have ever had can not do it.
I used it the other day in the back of an airplane in my shirtpocket not against the window and precisely tracked for 2 hours. Every other gps has to be against a window or outside

Last for 25 hours on a single charge.

I researched for weeks, this I am convinced is the best deal going.

Did some research on VTG, I guess Runt means that the I Blue 737 will not output the VTG which means vector track over the ground. As a pilot that is very useful info.
I really hope buygpsnow is able to add this, I am a pilot and right now trying to pick out an aviation program for the 6700 so I am looking for suggestions.
If anyone has some ideas for aviation apps for the 6700 that they like and why plz advise
