Hello, New PPC Owner - What should I do?

Hey everyone! I just bought my first "smartphone" an Apache, aka PPC6700..

I am brand new to these things.. I needed a phone that could handle email apps and wanted one with wifi capabilities.. All The reviews led me to the PPC6700 -

I am on alltel and will have this phone on the 6th..

If anyone has any suggestions on superb apps to download I would be interested also any optimization techniques would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Re: Hello, New PPC Owner - What should I do?

Hi Tyler! I'm also on Alltel with a 6700 and i LOVE my phone! I've become a total junkie to all the different forums and sites learning as much as i can about my phone. First thing i did on mine was upgraded to RobMeyers No Frills rom, and it was great, but me being me, i HAD to try out Helmi's too, you know, just to see which one i like more. and i gotta say, they're both great! I also added some other things and found a bunch of really great dial pad skins that i'm using as well. Now i'm trying to find out how i can get better reception out of it, though i fully realize my problem is WHERE i am and not the device i have! This is a great phone in every way, i love it! and this group is definatelly the place to be to learn learn learn!

So welcome here, and welcome to the world of PPC6700 FINATICS!!!!!!!!!

Re: Hello, New PPC Owner - What should I do?

Hey Broscards! Welcome!

The 1st program I started using was PIM Backuo (v2.7.0.0) to backup my contacts & favorites... This way, it didn't hurt anymore when I cooked a new rom or when I found a beta that required a hard-reset (BUMMER!). This was the start that I ended up appreciated the most (after the new rom of course -- Thanks again Helmi et al)!

Re: Hello, New PPC Owner - What should I do?

Thanks Williscool - ill google that..

Basically I got this phone to get emails from school and work when im not at home.. I did the research and figured this one is much better than any Palm offerings. I basically just want to have a cool phone that can play mp3's and i can get on the net with. Ive got the Build-OS system.. ill try that later today.. But what is the most popular/functional backup system. I dont want to lose any email settings or contacts or messages when I have to hard reset?

Thanks,

Re: Hello, New PPC Owner - What should I do?

OK, the phone came today.... at 7pm.. didnt have time to take it to Alltel to get it activated..

I dont know what these numbers mean.. so Im guessing here:

R-1.05 = Radio?
D-1.04 = IDK
WM 5.0

Im a little nervous about flashing to WM6 - i think ill just try WM5 for a while and see if i have any problems with it.. I found a nice contacts program on Microsoft.com "Photo Contacts" is the name I think.

I used the optimization hack i found here, but just seems to slow it down.. i probably installed it wrong lol...

Im looking for a good weather app.. Ive got google maps and like that alot!

I also got AIM, but havent been able to connect yet.

Thanks for all the advice guys.. Im sure Ill dig a little deeper on here once Im familiar with how the phone works.. (I just now figured out how to make my mp3's into a ringtone!)

Re: Hello, New PPC Owner - What should I do?

i personally like weather panel. it's got some really great skins too. i recommend that you check out some of the compatable software threads on the forum. there are a few. there are also some good "what are you running" and "post your today screen" threads.
first things first. play with it. i thought i knew what i wanted, then i got my phone. now what i want changes with each new app. ppc's make for a great community. hope you enjoy it as much as I (we) do.
