Three questions by a starter

Hi
I am just blown away by the tremendous work, dedication and quality of you guys. I have been cooking my own roms for some time but I have three issues that I have tried to read through but did not get answers.

1) How do I use my cell phone to access the internet (I have a verizon xv6700 WM6 with modem software installed in ROM) Can you kindly give me instructions for dummies. On the computer side I have vista.

2) (Vista related )When I try to upload a rom to my device using my vista system I get error 101 communication issue. I am using +0.04 in the ruu and also changed the RUU to run in administrative mode.

3) When I use my XP machine to burn the rom, it takes a long time to burn the rom. It gets to the reading the rar file and then stays there for nearly 30 mins before proceeding. I do not see similar slow down when I burn the rom through the vista system.

Yes, many people have helped assist and formulate so many things. They have helped make this phone so much more than what I think it was ever given thought to be.

Well, which way are you trying to connect to the net on the 6700? Are you doing a data connection through your carrier? Are you doing a WiFi connection through your router at home or a hotspot somewhere else? Or are you trying to do (ICS) Internet Connection Sharing through Vista and Medica Center?

Vista is known for its issues with WDMC and especially trying to upgrade ROMs, safest more stress-less way is to use XP

What do you mean "burn the ROM"? Are you trying to create your own?

Yes I am looking to do a data connection through my carrier. Basically lets say I am out in a park, I can connect my laptop to my cell phone and be online.

Okay im giving up on vista for now.

Well it is when I select all the applications to be installed on my cell phone and then tell it to create a ROM, it takes a long time to create a rom.

So in other words you want to connect to the internet via PPC through your carrier using its data plan and tether the PPC to the laptop and do ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) to have the laptop online. There are many threads here on tethering. Just do a basic seach in the 6700 forum using the keyword "tether". I personally do not do it as I refuse to pay VZW $45 for a data plan. Its rediculous IMHO.

Thats what many of us did when it came to upgrading anything on the phone as for ROMs or Radio updates/flashes

So are you using a "kitchen"? If so, which one? What are you tring to add to the ROM? I personally do not use the kitchens (although I think they are great) so I cannot help you on that one but there a lot of people here that do so I am sure you will get an answer.

Re: Three questions by a starter

I started using Kirvins C&S 3.5 1.02 and then did all the reg edits that you see in my sig and then installed all the apps that you see in my sig and then used SPB Clone to create an exact backup of my device. I used that ROM (I tried others) and liked its stabilty and what little it came with. That gave me a foundation to build my phone on to what it is today. If I have to hard reset, I simply do so and then run the "autorun.exe" on my card and in about 10mins I have a fresh phone with everything as it was. Although I have another phone that I use for testing apps and so forth, if something were to go wrong with my phone I could easily restore it to how I have customized it.
