Custom AKU2.2 Beta 1.0 Testers NEEDED!

So I worked hard last night "burning the midnight oil" as one of my teachers use to say. :D I currently need Beta testers to help with testing. Below you will find the Beta link, BUT it is locked and you WILL need a password from me to extract and install. The reason Im doing this is, I dont want a Beta out there floating around when I should have a finally build soon. ;) All I need is some people who are willing to hard reset! And install apps they were running like before, NO BACKUPS, only fresh installs. This way if there are issues we can track them down and I can try and figure them out. If you feel that you wanna be a beta tester and are up for it, then please PM me for the rar password. :thumbleft: Below are so things done (mostly behind the scenes ;) ) And if you get try this please report ANY issues to this thread. ;) I also have been running it now for a few hours with no issues as of yet. :P
Thanks,
Mike

Note: .NET CF 2.0 was removed because of issues, once fixed the download will be updated.

Features:
- A2DP built-in!
- HTC X Task Manager. (go to start/settings/system to enable)
- ApacheHax NO longer needed, registry pre-tweaked.
- Maximum number of connections tweak.
- No more dinging when volume is changed in call.
- Ligthen by removing un-needed files. (Saves about .5MB)
- UPX'd a few system files. (Saves about 5MB)
- Went from Telecom to Alltel base OS, so bootscreen now says Alltel.
(Looks better imho :P )

Known Issues:
- Video mail gives a unknown file format error.
- Today Screen Plugins dont always load after soft reset.

Wideawake 12-19-2006 06:58 AM

Thanks,
Mike

PS if you didnt recieve and PM either u didnt PM me or I skipped over ur name by mistake. Then wait shouldnt be too too long. :P

Coutry Error

I tried but get the error

"Error 20: Country ID Error 33-33-SQEV4-57-N-N"

dmrasm01 12-19-2006 09:46 AM

you have to have the 6700 in bootloader mode (hold down power button, notes button, then soft reset)

Cool! Will get in installed in a couple hours and post back.
Edit: just thought of a new feature request :D - if the extended rom does still have a lot of dead space in it, it might be handy to have it unlocked (maybe still hidden, but unlocked - ie, read-writeable)

Internal Store: 39.59/18.37 free
Memory: 49.20/33.57 free
Phone Device info:

Check phone call - ok
Check data use - ok

Feedback:
Odd! All internal memory NOT wiped, contacts still there, apps still there

installed junkware, retained all installed apps & contacts, but seems to have wiped registry so re-install of apps needed

latest PRL also retained

does seem to be aku 2.2 at least :D

Feedback
* wipe memory before install?
* Get rid of the junkware!
* fix the "Notification Error cannot start tmail" error (or that could just be me?)

* Installer worked fine, phone works fine post-update. Now to re-install everything, check my reg hacks, and run with it for a while

schettj 12-19-2006 02:07 PM

Followup

- must re-select usb serial mode for activesync
- re-installed apps, that got rid of the "Notification Error cannot start tmail" error on reboots
- getting 'shell error' when tapping close with inclose installed, maybe a conflict there
- shell error seems to have gone away with more re-installs :D

as mike stated please install custom rom after a hard reset. so errors can be found with fresh install.

Working smooth nice job! So far the only question I have is, why can't I get any of the 02+ today screen plugins to come up. When I got to options and try to sellect one of the outher plugins the calinder is the only one that shows up on the today screen. When I return to the option page the boxes are no longer checked. I am runing clean I haven't added any programs after the update and I will leave my 6700 that way till the bata testing is over.

schettj 12-19-2006 02:35 PM

Last update for now
- fully recovered from update (well, still need to verify all my reg hacks are in)
- unit functions fine, can't really say if its any faster - seems no slower, for sure
- data roaming works (didn't before, but then I just had done the radio update from the unoffical release - anyway wooo hoo! - in the bay area I'm only getting 1x data roaming, but it does work. Sweeet
- after removing junkware free ram and free store is pretty much exactly what it was pre-update.

So, updatinging gets you
* maybe snappier performance
* latest fixes, data roaming (if you hadn't done the full sprint update)
* no significant space/memory increase

At least I know now I can recover from a hard reset - only took an hour to do it manually :p Thanks for putting this togeather! I guess a side-benefit of doing this is I should be able to just backup/restore if you release another one with some storage size benefits, since I'll be on the 'current' OS level :D

schettj 12-19-2006 02:57 PM

Ok last last update... re-applied following reg hacks from

http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6...stable-12.html

DSOD RELATED IMPROVMENTS

PERFORMANCE RELATED IMPROVMENTS

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\States \Unattended
wav1 - 2 (DWORD)
Prevents the sound card from turning off while the unit is unattended mode.

HKLM\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\SDMemory_C lass
*BlockTransferSize - 64 (Dword) *If you experience skipping audio try 32 or 16.
Specifies the maximum amount of blocks to send per bus transfer.
** was 16, left @ 16

HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS
CacheSize - 4096 (DWord)
Specifies cache size.

HKLM\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt
ReplStoreCacheSize - 4096 (DWORD)

Reset, and *now* can say aku is faster. Without above tweaks aku2.2 is about as fast as 2.0 with those tweaks, With them, it's screaming.

grrr
Missed that - well foo. I installed the custom rom, but didn't do the hard reset (which woulda slicked the machine.) I assumed the custom rom install would have done the hard reset.

Ah well - not gonna do that right now. Just got the darn thing all restored. It does work that way too (apparently does nuke the registry doing what I did, as all my registry tweeks were gone.)

Wideawake 12-19-2006 06:24 PM

Alright, feedback. :D Big D tmail errors I haven't had personally. Today screen plugins working fine for me but I will try the o2 ones. ;) schjetta yea I kindof wanted folks to do a hard reset. But its ok. I will look into the reg edits u posted and check them out. Space, you actually save about 5mb with this one. But sad to say will probably be refilled by .NET 2.0s files. :( I will play with it more and see if I can't save some more memory ;)
~Mike

schettj 12-19-2006 07:27 PM

Ok more feedback - looks like you pre-install some reg tweaks?

This one is causing problems in PIE:
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main/MaxRequestThreads = 48
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main/MaxConnections = 48

Dailing them both down to 5 made PIE faster, as it was PIE hung loading ppcgeeks.com :D

FYI Windows Mobile has a max process/thread limit of 32 total, with the OS taking up 10 or so of them, so anything more then 22 is asking for trouble.

When you do the next release (hopefully with .NET2.0 and no junkware) I'll do a full hard reset and re-install, esp. if you get most of those registry tweeks in - installing apps is easy, doing those reg hacks over by hand is a PITA!

Overall though, AKU2.2 is working well.

So what the heck have I done here by *not* doing a hard reset, before installing this, anyway?

Wideawake 12-19-2006 07:34 PM

I just wanted clean bases to make the comparsion, the reason for the hard reset. Yeap reg hacks preinstalled. But the Max Connections is set to 30 by default, hmmm not sure why u have 48. Can someone else check this? I have been running 30 with no issues and its speedy. This is just the OS not a full rom so ur extended sames intact along with the radio. Those will come once the OS has been finished. ;)
~Mike

Wideawake 12-19-2006 07:38 PM

I rechecked it, mine is at 48 too  I will fix that, but it seems to be working fine for me.
~Mike

Jimskalajim 12-19-2006 08:15 PM

So Far So Good

Install went fine, no problems. Just remember to hard reset, (not soft)after the update as well, if you dont things can get messed up. (found out the hard way). Is it possible to preinstall the sms threaded app and the Arksoft for MMS? I know beggers cant be choosers but maybe a version with and without CF2? I've no use for it myself...

rukshmani 12-19-2006 08:34 PM

Does it remove the Junk softwares?

I followed all the driections, and flashed on boot mode. Then after its completes, I did HARD RESET again. It still installs the Sprint Software Store,Get Mail etc, is it supposed to do that?

Wideawake 12-19-2006 08:38 PM

yes its the OS only.

rukshmani 12-19-2006 08:49 PM

Ok

Hey Mike so how far ru from 3.3? :-) I am really looking forward to it. It includes lots of new softwares right?

Jimskalajim 12-19-2006 09:35 PM

installing apps memory...

One odd thing is happening when I install apps it no longer tells me how much memory left I have in the device, ext rom, or storage card. Other than that its considerable faster now. I removed all my bloatware from my ext rom previously and it didn't come back with the upgrade. No problem with PIE either.

Thats not a problem with the custom rom. that happened with the other 2.2 rom also.

Looks like you entered the value in hex. 30 in hex is equal to 48 in decimal. For a value of 30 decimal, put in a value of 1E for hex.

Big D5 12-19-2006 11:09 PM

Ok forget my first post I didn't do a hard reset before I loaded. I reloaded and everything is fine forget about the 02 stuff don't waist your time. 6700 is running great I am going to try some speed tests with my 700wx and see how it compares know

allanak 12-19-2006 11:35 PM

Wow. Alltel logo alone was worth the reflash  Just reflashed, will edit in a bit with discoveries.

edits:
The first thing I noticed that I also had to do with the AKU 2.2 version prior to this one was that my phone would hang while running PPST.EXE when loading the extended rom apps. Another hard reset would clear the problem and I had to do that again this time around.

Wideawake 12-19-2006 11:50 PM

Are you sure it hangs, because it does take a min to run ppst.exe which updates ur pri and prl to 20224. But that being said this only changes the OS the extrom is the same that was already on ur device. It wasn't touched. ;)
~Mike

allanak 12-19-2006 11:55 PM

Well...it sits for a good 2 mins and after the (second) hard reset, it goes much quicker.

Wideawake 12-20-2006 12:35 AM

havent even really started into it.....kind of off topic tho. ;) Also I cleaned up the thread by removing requests for the beta password. Please keep this thread clean and only about issues with AKU2.2 Beta1.0 :thumbleft:
Thanks,
Mike

jschurawlow 12-20-2006 12:46 AM

Welp got around to installing now, did a hard reset before hand and installing it in now.

Horray for the alltel logo, beats telecom definitely.

allanak 12-20-2006 12:51 AM

Slingplayer seems to hang on me now at startup...strange. It worked on the old 2.2 ROM. Not sure what's going on, but the little red dots (kinda like a progress bar) just stop after a second or two after loading.

Going to try downloading the newest slingplayer to see if there's some fix.

Also, now after installing a few apps, I get "Cannot execute repllog.exe"
I got this earlier and hard reset...now its back.

Wideawake 12-20-2006 12:53 AM

So no slingplayer? Or does it just hang and eventually work?
~Mike

allanak 12-20-2006 12:58 AM

Just hangs...don't know if you saw my edit above either.

I got this with the first Beta I posted, it got downloaded once before I could remove it and post a new one. Were you that one person who got it :D Did u download it at like 6ish this morning? If so try the new link it was updated around 630ish. I noticed that issue early and removed before everyone got to download it. :D Also if u were, u dont have to hard reset, just reupdate it if u like.
~Mike

allanak 12-20-2006 01:08 AM

Yep, that was probably me. Downloading the latest slingplayer and reinstalling using their desktop installer seemed to fix it. I think the old version was trying to hit my old IP address (it syncs my device ID with their backend to add my slingbox config or something) which might have been causing it to hang.

Is there a way to fix without redownloading? Will I lose all the stuff I just changed?

Wideawake 12-20-2006 01:11 AM

nope u would have to redownload, but u dont have to. You would just have to live with the repllog errors. And nevermind I forgot, this wipes ur reg so ur programs would no longer function correctly. So Im sorry, its a beta :D Anyways the choice is urs that wasa the only fix in the one I updated it with.
~Mike

allanak 12-20-2006 01:14 AM

Doh...reinstall here I come. Yes, I know it's a beta. Just didn't think there'd be 2 versions in the same day haha

Wideawake 12-20-2006 01:19 AM

Well that was a pretty major error as it popped up during the tutorial so I fixed it asap and updated the link. ;) I didnt think anyone would have time to even notice/download it :P But I was mistaken. :D
~Mike

jschurawlow 12-20-2006 01:30 AM

Well so far so good, did the hard reset method and so forth, AKU 2.2 is in

Following Apps are what i normally install and can confirm they do install fine:
Skype for PPC
GSplayer
Total Commander
Voice Command 1.6
Spb Backup (did a stock install, no backups restored for this testing)

I've run all of the above apps so far except VC (since my bt headset isn't needed yet).

Also does this custom aku include the reg fix for the bt issue (where bluetooth will random shutoff/delink from paired devices)?

BTW wideawake definite props in order for use of alltel base, this one already seems a bit better than the telecom.
