Keyboard usually very laggy and unresponsive

On my 6700 the keyboard is usually very laggy, to the point where it sometimes doesn't even register a key here and a key there. Once in a while it seems okay but 80% of the time its major lag. Any way to speed things up? I am using WM6 but remember this issue on the stock rom.
