Question How do you manage storage/program memory?

I'm just curious to see how everyone else handles the 6700's limited space. I've been flashing alot lately, and trying alot of different ways to do this, like packing as much as I can in the ROM, or keeping the ROM lite and using Tier Autoinstall for my app cabs. But, I think what seems to work best for me is to keep the ROM fairly lite, unlock the ExtROM and install all my apps there manually.

This seems to work best so far. It's the best mix of performance/stability I think. I wish there was a setting in Tier Autoinstall to allow installing to the ExtROM. Although since its just an interface for AutoRun.exe I doubt that is possible.

Anyways, I'm pretty new here, and I was hoping some of you could let me in on what you think is the best way to do all this. Thanks.

I don't flash very often and use a similar management approach: a not-overpacked rom, cabs on the storage card -> about a dozen apps installed to the extended rom. These cab-installed apps are either old (Ewallet from PPC2002, Pocket Streets 2005), updated often (Phoneweaver, Google Maps), don't have an OEM in the kitchen (MemMaid 2.0, Twinky's threader), or just for trying out (Google Navigator). These might be a pain if I flashed more often - but since it only takes 5 minutes to install all of them it doesn't seem worth the effort to develop OEMs etc. FWIW.

I install PocketBreeze, PocketWeather, SPBPocketPlus, and WisbarLite onto the unit (and just recently S2U2) the rest is already on the sd card and I just use shortcuts. I have a little over 30M free in storage. Many programs (like Memmaid) don't need to be installed and will run fine like that. I have many that work that way...

As for program memory, that I have some issue with. I have about 18m on reset and it seems it should be more Not sure which is the hog...

I keep the ROM fairly light, install a half-dozen cabs from my SD card and wind up with a fairly good bit of memory (for an Apache). I run MemMaid to keep it squashed. The screenshot is memory right after a reset. After use program shrinks to 16-18 MB and stabilizes. A lot of prgs on my SD are run from shortcuts and not installed.
