weird sync problem with Vista, Outlook 2003 & WM5 (on VzW xv6700)

Howdy, everyone. Something of a n00b, but really appreciate all of the valuable info on this forum. Have been running the VzW xv6700 since July, and it does mostly what I'd like it to do. But have been having a weird sync error, and hoping to get some help.

Running Vista and Outlook 2003. I want to sync Outlook contacts, email, calendar and notes. When I USB connect it, the phone syncs, but MOST times, none of the outlook info syncs. Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) in Vista AND ActiveSynce on WM5 both report that the sync has occured properly - but the info hasn't sync'ed (e.g., new contacts and calendar items aren't on the phone).

I've checked the ActiveSynce options to make sure that the check boxes are enabled to sync this info. When the phone is "connected", I go into WMDC and confirm that the same boxes are checked.

SOMETIMES, the boxes are checked, and the info is sync'ed. SOMETIMES, the boxes are NOT checked, and I can check them (and WMDC reports that these "changes" have been properly saved to the phone). But oftentimes, I'm not ALLOWED to check the boxes (grayed out) - on the desktop AND/OR on the phone.

Very puzzling. I've tried various situations to try to figure out why I'm not allowed to check these boxes, and why these options change on their own!

Anyone else experienced this problem?
