Such as? I'd love to hear the geniuses but I doubt anyone will post about themselves unless they see themselves on the list. Can you PM the first poster your names so he can add them to the list?

Ok, this isnt going well at all. If you read my post, I said to please PM me if I forgot anyone. As you can see I am fairly new and havent posted much so I knew going into this thread that I would forget some people(sorry).
Instead of trying to bring this down, you should just let me know who I'm missing and I would edit my original post. Sorry for trying show my appreciation to the people who have made this site and the 6700 great Thanks |

Is it just me or is everyone extra-sensitive lately? I don't know what it is but seems that every five minutes someone is getting upset or offended about something. OP I don't think schettj meant any offense with his posts--in fact I agree with him that there are a lot more players here than the ones you first listed in your post. I see you've added a few of them now.
And unfortunately I think you may never get responses from some of the people on your list. Helmi, while a God to this forum (and a hell of a nice guy) is a pretty private person, and also lately hasn't had much time to devote to the site. Also, I think Jeff Kirvin has left the site for good (at least he said he was going to) so I don't know if he'll be posting here. He does have a blog though, at www.jeffkirvin.net. JBabey also no longer has an Apache so I don't know that he's spending much (if any) time in this forum either. I'm not really very good at the "talk about yourself" kinda stuff (it's kind of like those small group "get to know you in one minute" kind of things--shudder). But I'll go ahead because I know you posted this in earnest and with good intentions. So here goes: One question I've gotten a lot from other users here is if I work for Sprint. I think my close proximity to Sprint World HQ (in Overland Park KS) probably has something to do with that. Anyway, the answer is no. I do IT for a local family-owned business and just end up with a fair amount of free time for hobbies like this one. Everything I know is self-taught (as in I had no classes or training--just a lot of google searching and messing around with stuff). I do have a Bachelors' Degree in Business with a minor in Chemistry (I was pre-med for most of my college career) but I can't say it really helped much with the tech stuff. I think what does help is that I always want to know why things work the way they do--so rather than just find out a solution to a problem I've always tried to research deeper to figure out why that solution works--which of course requires more time but it does get easier as you learn more--just like anything else. My first PPC was the iPAQ 3135, a monochrome-screened version of the 3600 series released back in the infancy of Pocket PC--the year 2000. I still have it, although the battery is long-gone. I dig it out every now and then to see how far the Pocket PC has come in the last 7 years (in many ways though it's exactly the same). I then had a Jornada 560 running PPC 2002. I never ended up using it much, despite the fact that it was a nice device. The reason for that was that I'd been carrying around a cell phone and just had no room in my pockets/belt for a separate device for PIM functions. It was at that point I saw that the solution was to converge the two but the technology/industry just wasn't there yet. I gave up on PDAs for a few years because I just saw them as a waste of money if they just sat in a drawer after the first week. My company was also with Nextel during that time which as many of you know has the worst phone selection ever. Due to several factors we switched to Sprint in the Fall of 2004 (prior to any talk of a merger between Sprint and Nextel) and have never looked back. I am the admin for our account (70+ lines at the moment) and have had really good experiences overall with Sprint and are getting great service for the money (I know that's not everyone's experience though). Anyway, prior to and during our port over to Sprint I began scouring the net for information on PDA Phones. I knew about the Treos, but was not and still am not a fan of PalmOS so I knew that would be a waste of money for me. I also had a chance to look at the Hitachi G1000 which to me looked absolutely ridiculous and was a dinosaur by Fall 2004 anyway. At the time there were various reports of the Daxian CU928 device coming to the US, so I decided to take a Sanyo flip phone for the time being and wait for it. Didn't have to wait long--Sprint released it as the Audiovox PPC6600 a few months later. Well I guess I could go on and on but this is turning into more of a history about HTC CDMA PPC devices than giving you any insight into me personally. To sum it up, the 6600 gave my my first taste of convergence but the 6700 was the true revolution (for me anyway)--although its full potential was not realized until this summer (first with the stable driver set of the Bell WM5 AKU 3.3 ROM and later with Helmi's tour de force WM6 kernel). I have owned a Mogul since July but the thing mainly sits in a drawer while I await a more mature driver set and kernel (I believe that is coming early 2008 ). Meanwhile, what the users at this site have been able to accomplish with the Apache is absolutely astounding to me, and I am so glad to be a part of that. None of us could have gotten this far individually. It's only been through the unique cooperative atmosphere at this site that we've been able to keep the Apache a relevant device two whole years after its release. Well I hope that gets the ball rolling. Don't feel bad if others choose not to share any details about themselves though--it's just not something everyone's comfortable with. Regardless it was a nice gesture and it's always great to see appreciation from the other users of the site for the amount of hard work many of us have put in to help make the Apache (and this site) what it is. -Dan |

I have to say that I love this thread and hope it doesn't die. I have been helped by luv2chill (Dan) on this and other forums and I loved learning the behind the scenes stuff.
On a side note, could this thread be renamed to something more appropriate? I don't think the title really explains it well. |

luv2chill,
Thanks for all the great info. Nice to know the how's and why's of why people are so good at something. I had the G1000, can hardly remember it after having the 6600, which I really liked. Now have the 6700 and with the upgrades and reg tweaks that I've gotten here, it's working perfectly. Hope it never craps out like the 6600 did after a few years. Sprint did replace it with the 6700, but boy I invested in accessories for that thing like crazy. Have done the same with the 6700. I think I tend to spend too much between the accessories and the software. You have to have it all!!
