Total noob question (I searched 1st)
BTW, whenever I search for anything, I get this:
"The search term you specified (to) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer." Even if I use 5 words. Weird. Anyway, I bought a used PPC-6700 and it has WM6 on it. According to the Device info it is ROM version 3.50.00 WWE, ROM date is 4/25/07. Anyway, I want to switch my service to this phone but I've read that I can't do this unless I flash back to WM5 because the WM6 won't supprt the ## commands that are necessary to program for the ESN switch. Is that true? The guy I bought it from said WM5 is on the storage card, but how do I do it (if I indeed need to do it)? Thanks. |

I have also heard that about switching your service to a WM6 apache, but I can tell you I am running WM6 & can use the ## cmds. If you want to be safe, go to UTSTAR & download the latest official WM5 ROM for your carrier, then get your service working, then grab Verizonguys WM6 kitchen & start cookin/flashin. http://www.utstar.com/pcd/view_phone...&bID=30&sAct=0 |
The ## cmnds are part of the phone service and shouldn't be affected by the software being used in the phone. I just verified the ## with my WM6 6700, and they work fine. You should still flash to a stock ROM if you have to take the phone in for an esn swap.

The search won't work for me even when I use a *.
Anyway I called Sprint to switch my service to the 6700 and they did the ESN switch, then we went to program it and NONE of the ## commands work. It just sits there on the dial screen like a normal phone entry. So I went to the storage card to flash back to the original ROM and I see 'Mobile 6 ROM' and 'Stock ROM from HTC' there. If I click on either one of them I get an error message saying "[insert ROM name here] is not a valid Pocket PC application". So I can't do anything. I hope I don't have to factory reset this thing. Anyone heard of this? And again, I am trying to search, I can't make it work. |

Thanks for the explanation guitardoc. I know it's a pain when a noob comes on and doesn't know anything so I appreciate it. Quote:

Here's my somewhat-noob question about the WM6 V4 kitchen and dialers. I haven't had success substituting other dialers for the WM6 touch dialer. I don't like the Touch Dialpad, and want to use the crossbow/smartdial from the 3.5 kitchen. Some error about an up arrow stops build OS in the creating registry step. (itncompatible?) I've seen some using other dialers with this kitchen but are they added after the flash? Or as an OEM?

I've been using this big button dialer for awhile now, much better than the stock dialer, plus it fixes the data arrow issue.
