I hope you are going to be supporting this fix that you posted because it is only a matter of time before something goes wrong. colonel, please take a deep breath and relax.

rob's pretty good at giving credit where credit is due. And all he has on his site is the ROM's and a few files that people specifically requested. If he has the bandwidth, I'd rather he do that than put them on rapidshare, because frankly, I find rapidshare to be hit or miss.

I don't know about the downgrade stuff. I read what he had posted on his site, and it made me glad I'm not a Verizon user. That process made me rather nervous. If you think he shouldn't have posted it publicly, I suggest to you that a simple PM explaining your position would be far more appropriate than leaping down the throat of someone who has been very helpful in a public forum.

Well, since you chose to bring this into the open now, I guess I will share my response to your PM that you have now posted to make yourself a martyr. This has nothing to do with wanting to help people. Everyone here has put in more hours than you know helping people with these phones. Hell, it took several days and almost bricking two phones to get this fix. But you didn't think about that did you. The problem I had was solely with the way you offended me and naigaman (and probably others) by coming to ask for help and then renaming it and placing it on another site as if you created it. I sasy this because there is no mention there of where you got it, who was nice enough to take time out of their day to help you with it, or even why you feel the fix is even necessary. As you will read, I think your misconceptions of what the bootloader does and why someone should revert to an older bootloader are way off. There really is no need to revert the bootloader now that people can make their own roms. Here is a hint: make them a bit smaller and use the new RUU. With that, here is my response....

Quote:
Sadly I am going to respond to you with three simple questions to show you how little you know.

1. Where do you think the 2.02 bootloader came from? Perhaps, if you had done your research you would find that it was never released like these newer ones are. In fact, it was an effort of luv2chill, naigaman, and helmi to get the bootloader dumped from an older upgrade and then edited to where it could be flashed to revert the bootloader. Apparently you did not know that the Bell rom upgrade caused this issue first and that is where this fix originated.

2. Why do you think we ask people to come into the chatroom? Apparently you think it is some ego thing. However it is because this process can cause some serious side effects including the possibility of bricking the phone. If you follow HTC phones at all you will know how dangerous it can be to mess with the bootloader. Then again, perhaps you don't know that. Regardless, it was decided that it was probably the safest thing to have the people come in so we could walk them through it instead of just posting a simple thread of instructions in a thread and leaving people on their own.

3. What do you think the problem really is with the new bootloader? You act like it is a huge deal that people have it. Um, Verizon/Bell wants them to have it. Do you even know what it does to have one of the bootloaders or the other? You acted like it was life or death and that the phone was ruined. Sadly, all it means is that you have to use a different RUU to update and that the roms have to be slightly smaller because of a new rom partition. Bonus points if you can tell me the up side of this....

Now, with that said, I will let you return to your "development". However, perhaps you could just ask some questions and maybe get permission before claiming someone else's work as your own. Noone would care if you wanted to help people, but I wondered why you had to post it on your site where you make no mention of where you got it or ppcgeeks.

I wondered if Robmayer was going to catch some flak. I watched the Kirvin issue swing out of control. On both sides, IMO. When I saw the Verizonguy kitchen come out, I worried. SFSG.
I understand wanting to get credit for donated effort. It is a courtesy that should be extended. Many thanks deserved.

I appreciate it when I see anyone attempting to take the high road, even in an argument. It used to be called being a gentleman.

What I like about Helmi: making WM6 available when we thought it was not happening. Fundamental and critical to all of this.
What I like about Kirvin: Clear communication (what I read), good ideas and concepts, attempts to make peace.
What i like about Verizonguy: Verizon, team player. Fast worker.
What I like about Robmayer: organizing specific things pertinant to my interests (like Verizon), good communication, and less cluttered place to look for things. It is tough finding everything needful as this ppcgeeks forum is so popular, large, and spread out. Also, very slow to browse. More consolidation could help. Thanks to all those who have been gathering things into one place, or at least fewer places.
What I like about God: working out that whole electron thing. Pretty essential and fundamental.

If I am screwing up somewhere, I would appreciate being gently guided back onto the correct path. I am appreciating everyone's expertise. Thanks to all.

I have done my best to clear this issue up between me and colonel. I did apologize to him via email, and just for the record... Colonel, I apologize for my response to your post on my thread and for posting the bootloader fix on my site. The link has been removed.

Thanks

Rob

Isn't this a joint effort like open source?

I see WM6 development as a scene effort, with many people working with others previous accomplishments. Lets not let egos ruin what should be a joint effort.

Do we all really need to post a full disclaimer detailing every code fragment and list credits for every item like the credits at the end of a movie?

Robmayer is just trying to help the masses and keep the noobs off the backs of others.

My thanks go to EVERYONE helping out here and on other sites.

first off, this couldve easily been handled via PM, email or in the irc chat.
IT IS BEING REVIEWED.

second, i think WE ALL know and agree that anything we flash or do with these phones is our liable fault..
It IS BEING REVIEWED.

third, have you not thought that maybe he wanted to take the flack if the bootloader fix didnt work?? If he had mentioned "the inside guys" as being the creators, and it ended up not working everyone in the world would be on you guys backs.. instead he lightly mentions a thanks to those who helped with the fix, and posted it up.. knowing if it didnt work people would be ringing on robs doorbell and not yours.. All im saying, is maybe he was looking out for you.
IT IS BEING REVIEWED.

forth, everyone needs to CALM the F*** down and work together to get this ball rolling forward.

I mean seriously, thats the beauty of these forums and you guys work... we have options. We got the stock helmi rom, we got an unofficial kitchen and we have a super stripped down rom.. I think its great people are eleborating on others projects in the mean time of a "finalized kitchen"

I agree.. I'm a noob when it comes to this forum. But I read with amazement some of the posts. I manage an entire group of developers from India plus some stateside, and I know what it means to take credit for something you didn't do. I also know that the written word isn't the same as us all sitting in a room together giving credit where credit is due. HOWEVER, in all of the posts I've seen from Robmayer, he was giving credit. Now granted I'm not privvy to the chat room chat, but he's apologized, posted it ... so let's all move on.

Isn't the purpose of all of this to make a good device better? I don't see any blatant "plagarism" here... what is see as a noob and an outside is some ego's getting in the way.

I wonder if Bill Gates gets his nose hairs all twisted with someone tries to make his products better.....

Let's all work together... hell if you read some of the posts, we're all violating MS licensing policy by doing ANYTHING to our devices.

let's get back to doing what we all do best... Helmi, Luv2chill, tiermann, colonel, robmayer, kirvin et al and the rest of the devs making our device better and we lowly noobs, using your tweaks.

I love you guys.. Come on -- come give me a big hug!!!!

Ok... I've installed RobMayer's ROM based on Helmi's original WM6 ROM.

I can attest to it working with bootloader v 1.00 and Vista with the Vista RUU workaround (googled and found on Modaco's site - dam another forum I just joined LOL).

The fact that it never hit the ExtROM customization was awesome - I was all poised to soft reset before it hit them.

I have about 40MB free after this ROM installed. It also seems to run pretty fast.

Only issue I experienced was that the hard reset didn't take at first... thing booted in and then I saw my iphone theme pop up... did another hardreset and it took. I think I fat fingered the 1st hard reset.

UGH.. now re-installing all my customizations.

Thanks RobMayer... and the rest of the dev guys here... my g/f asks me constantly why she can't reach me on my phone.. and I tell her "I'm flashing it again, with something cool from PPCGeeks"... she thinks I'm nuts.

Radio 1.43 Upgrade

I am running the WM6 Clean, No Junk Version and my radio reads version 1.10.00. I would like to upgrade to the 1.43, what is the best way to go about doing so with this?

Thanks to all for your work, I am grateful!
