bootloader v1.02 is a particular version of bootloader (the software that starts your phone up). It's not specific to Verizon.

sorry everyone. ive been reading this thread for about 2 hours now. does anyone know if the sprint sms reply issue was fixed and if there are any other issues with the sprint rom? trying to decide if i should update my 6700 or get a 6800. i would really rather not spend the money on another phone just for updates i can get from this great site.

Not aware of any SMS issue other than people letting carrier customizations run when they shoulnd't.

Re: Apache WM6 CE OS 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2)

I just registered here to say...

I am SO FED UP with the WM5 that came on my Sprint PPC-6700. I did a full reload on it using its built-in recovery "partition" (I guess) and since I don't have any intention of using it for a cell phone (no service on it, only a Pocket PC), I aborted the carrier setup routine. Then I was left with a clean, sleek, and somewhat functional PPC-6700. That's why I now call it a Generic PPC-6700.

It sure would be nice to be able to completely remove all traces of a cellular radio from my PPC though. That's why I grabbed the Generic image from here to load on it! Holy crap, I can't believe this actually exists and I didn't know about it! So I'm backing up my data and downloading the image now. I can't wait to give it a try. I CAN'T WAIT!

Eat that, Micro$oft. Maybe if you had actually sold this, I wouldn't have to be getting it for free. I even learned about the availability of third party OS upgrades through a MS Windows Mobile developer blog (talking about how EVIL they are). Hah!

Long story short, I have the distinct feeling that this is going to be a lifesaver. THANKS! If it works, expect whatever donations I can come up with

edit: Okay, so the upgrade went perfect (it now starts up with an HTC logo instead of a Sprint logo! YAY!), but after the incredibly long startup process, then the first run wizard, I was still left with the "Will now run customizations in 3 seconds..." message INSTALLING SPRINT CRAP! Gaaahhhh... *headdesk* Isn't there some clean way to be rid of that garbage from the core OS ROM? I installed "generic" for a reason - to be completely rid of all cellular related functions!

Just soft reset when that customization screen pops up after the Rom installs and runs for the first time. It will bypass any files that may be installed after that.

Yeah, that's what I did (and had been doing since I got the phone). I was afraid it would corrupt a part of the file system (write cache, maybe?), but so far so good.

Unfortunately, it still doesn't do anything about being rid of the cellular functions. I can even still make calls (that produce a "we were unable to authenticate your phone..." message). What I wanted to be able to do was kill the cellular radio completely ("flight mode") without actually going into so-called "flight mode" which causes TomTom to not access Bluetooth (even if Bluetooth is specifically enabled). It's a bit of an annoyance and a battery-waster...
(edit: Maybe even save some ROM space by getting rid of its support files as well...)

But let me tell you how much fun I'm having with the thing! Since my iPod (Nano) was lost recently, I've been looking for a way to replace it. Seems that my shiny new WM6 Pocket PC + Windows Media Player on my desktop is even better than iTunes + iPod! *woot*

Re: Apache WM6 CE OS 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2)

You can't really "eliminate" the cellular function as the radio is integral to the phone. You'll just have to ignore it. As to your customizing step, you need to delete the contents of your exended rom partition (any of the useful parts are already baked into custom roms).

btw, generic means it's for "carrier's we don't specifically have a unique configuration for", not no cell service.

Re: Apache WM6 CE OS 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2)

Hi:
First of all I want to say Thank You! for Helmi and collaborators of this wonderful site for which I have become addicted

Now I need help! Please !
I have a problem a bought a used ppc 6700 it is in excellent conditions and it brought wm5 so I downloaded
Apache WM6 CE OS 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2) and installed it in my phone and it runs great but I was unable to activate it because when I put the ##sprint programming codes the operator told me it didn't do anything he told me it was supposed to open some menus and going forward I tried using the sliding keyboard and I notice that the numbers and letters are not configured correctly and when in phone mode the keyboard doesn't work except for the two little buttons in the sides. Can anyone PLEASE! help me through this so I can connect my phone. I'll appreciate your help

Why not just downgrade back to WM5, activate, then upgrade again.

I don't think that will work. I think the codes need to be saved on the device, don't they?
