And make sure the PPC 6700 is in bootloader mode (hold down the Notes and Power buttons and use your stylus to push the soft reset switch.) Yes, all at the same time. :P Then plug the PPC in via your USB cable and start up the ROM app.

You should use the kitchen instead of this ROM. This ROM is outdated by the kitchen.

If you have the 11/20/07 or later version of BuildOS (part of the kitchen), it prompts you to enter bootloader at the appropriate time (just before RUU start).

Has anyone else had a problem with installing other keyboard apps on their device. I tried to install PocketCM as well as Cootek Touchpal, both appear in the list of input methods but when selected, default kayboard appears.

Any ideas?

This is a common problem. Use SIPChange to change SIPs.

150 pages!!.....can someone give me the gist?

My Verizon XV6700 should be arriving here soon. The 1st thing I want to do is ug to WM6. I read about "kitchen"....I don't know what that is........has there been an upgraded ROM released........I'll keep reading, but if someone wants to cut to the chase for me, that'd be great.

Semper Fi,

Sarge

PS.....from reading it seems that what I should do is make sure the thing works the way it's supposed to before upgrading....

Sarge,
For WM6, definitely use the kitchen. This thread supports an older rom helmi_c issued for initial testing. All the lessons learned were incorporated into the kitchen. You could check out this thread for a noob's-eye-view:http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=13516

Get the new kitchen at Forums->HTC Apache->Ugrades->
it should be the first one on top.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=53
or go here directly:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=11074

Download both the Kitchen and the OEM package
then Install the kitchen first,
then simply copy oem package to the BuildOS folder in the drive you chose to install the kitchen. Then run it.

How would someone define "kitchen" as it's used in this application.

This is way too scary for me.......all for a nice lookin GUI.......the rest is just "fluff"...........

The kitchen is where you "cook" your ROM the way you like it. Kind of like a burger king for your phone. Your way right away(almost right away). Once you do some reading go and download the kitchen. Open it up and it is alomost self explanatory. Someone answered your question in the other thread as well. Please try not to post the same, or virtually the same, question in multiple threads. It takes a bit of research on your part. I was afraid as well when I first found this site but the people here are very informative and willing to answer your questions. Just read and then read some more. Then search. If you still have a question after that, ask away and you shall find help.

Sarge,
Don't be distracted by all the folks talking about iphone themes and cubes (i.e. the fluff). The real value of the kitchen is being able to pack your own phone with exactly what you want - and you'll find that with helmi's help you can pack this phone much more efficiently than the Microsoft/HTC/Verizon troika managed to do.

[Edit: If you want to start slow, try Rob Mayer's clean, no-junk, pre-cooked rom in this same forum. It's easy to load for most people and will get you going with WM6. (It's "pre-cooked" because Rob first cooked it in helmi's kitchen, then tweaked it and packaged it up for you.)]
