Also do you have the .net framework installed on you PC? Do you run regular Microsoft updates? I would suggest doing an update if you don't. A quick google search made reference to framework.

By the way mods, thanks for the sticky. Makes it easier to tell someone where to find the thread.

esdriver00 01-18-2008 07:27 PM

Thanks a bunch, I'm downloading .net framework now to if it helps. I'll let you know.
When I download the kitchen to my desktop, it appears as a black folder icon, then I open it and it installs the rest of its contents in it and the chef icon appears on my desktop and in the root folder, neither of them works when I click on it.

GoatDweller 01-18-2008 08:23 PM

es, are you familiar with .rar?

When you download have the file open in rar, then you'll see all of the files, press the back button, and then drag and drop the rar of Helmi's kitchen and it will copy to desktop, now unpack, then click the black icon.

Hi there, I had a question that went unanswered. And I addressed it to you but no response...How would I go about getting some support from you, and I'll gladly do it.

esdriver00 01-18-2008 08:54 PM

thanks again guys, it works now. i'm in the kitchen now putting my goods together. another quick question, whatever can't fit the first time around, can it go on my card?

GoatDweller 01-18-2008 08:56 PM

I'm in the same boat as you esdriver, but no one has answered me..
What I want to do is to load the other programs that were available as options in the kitchen options list, and add them afterwards. Maybe they'll answer you but I haven't had any luck getting help!

esdriver00 01-19-2008 01:11 AM

I'm gonna give it a try now. If I have any luck I'll let you know.

Goat this was not correct advice. I don't understand what you are trying to say. It is confusing. His issue was with framework on his PC. He was in the process of fixing that, which he had indicated in a previous post. Please make sure that you advice is clear and understandable when you give it. Not trying to crack you nuts, its just better not to confuse people when they are having tech difficulties.

No OEMS cannot go onto a storage card, if that is what your asking.

I think what your asking is can you load some of the programs after your ROM is built. If not please rephrase. If you like the program and cannot fit it in your build but you want the program on your phone, just right click on the program in the kitchen and go to its homepage. Some of the programs have cabs for installation. If you like you can load the ones that you want, then have the others install via cab. If you put the cabs on your storage card and use tier autoinstall (found in the kitchen) the cabs will automatically install after a hard reset. Got to have patience goat, we all have REAL jobs too. I have had a hard time finding the time to get on the past few days. I did a ton of reading when I first started. Read a lot of stuff that didn't even affect me, just to learn. I still have questions every once in a while too but trust me if you poke around in here a bit then that will help to answer most of your questions when you are not getting a response.

esdriver00 01-19-2008 12:44 PM

OK. I followed ur instructions and everything turned out perfect. Everything is working fine and I'm loving it. I'm back in school now and not working that much but I would definetly like to donate whatever I can to help/thank you guys for all that hard work.

I've been mixing recipes(programs) to see which one I prefer most. That is the way to do it right? I have re-programmed my phone like 4 times already to see which one I like.

esdriver00 01-19-2008 12:47 PM

Another quick question. I notice now that I can send pic/video mail, is this sent through my data plan? Because the connection says its through sprint and not the internet. Or do I need to edit the connection settings?

GaMedic 01-19-2008 02:43 PM

I don't know how sprint works, but on Verizon you can send pics/vids without data plan if you have a phone package that has unlimited messaging included. No data plan would be needed with unlimited.

Understood and agreed!
It's just the Kitchen is so awesome and I couldn't control myself=D> BTW, I wanted to thank you for the wonderful work regarding the kitchen. This IS the best thing and has made my old phone a TOTL powerhouse! Thanks!

GoatDweller 01-19-2008 03:20 PM

Also, I noticed that on my splash screen it does not say ppcgeeks in blue on a banner up top? Why is that?

On Sprint you'll need to call *2 and add picmail to your account. $5 a month unless you can schmooze them into giving it to you for free.

Well the funny thing is that it works now, while before it never did. I also have a data plan with them still.

It should. The settings for MMS are correct in the kitchen's build for Sprint. It should and does work the first time without having to go into MMS/picmail settings. Innit great!

bullocks 01-20-2008 04:10 PM

Welp, i think im gonna give this a try now!

:violent2:

bullocks 01-20-2008 04:13 PM

how do u get out of the bootloader screen?

also, my bootloader is v1.00 so what do i pick from the RUU drop down?

GaMedic 01-20-2008 06:19 PM

You should be able to get out of bootloader with a simple reset. If not see the stuck in bootloader thread. I am not at home to look at my home PC but I think you use standard.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Start up the kitchen and read the About page, GoatDweller. Still want to stand by your post in Rob's thread?

I have been fooling around loading various ROMs for a year or so with fairly good results. I tried the Kitchen a few times but gave up on it for 1 reason or the other. Now since I read the tutorial at the beginning if this thread, I have no problems with the kitchen, except understanding some of the choices. Any way after a couple of builds I got 1 I like and will stick with it for a while. Thank you for the tutorial and comments.
One question, I think ExtRom can be cleaned ought, right? And if you erase it how do you use it, just load to it? Back a few versions ago there were 5 or 6 lines that were required but I think that has changed and is covered by the ability to choose a carrier in the kitchen. Thanks to all that have helped, colonel and other from a while back especially.

Yes you can clean out and use the EXT ROM. Just remember to check that box in the carrier select. then you can go in and erase everything, and reuse the space. It's like having an extra memory card.

Just to clarify for the next person - that's the Ext Rom Unlock selection in the Carrier Customize section (not the carrier dropdown on the toolbar)

There's also a blank_Extrom archive floating around (it used to be on the ftp - not sure if it's still there) that you can flash to your device that will also clean out the extrom.

Sarge, USMC 01-22-2008 05:19 PM

What's this??? Something NEW to try?? Elaborate some for us nOObs on this EXTROM thing you're talkin about here? How much space am I gonna recoup "cleaning out" extrom?

GaMedic 01-22-2008 05:28 PM

You can empty out your extended rom and use he space for installed programs. I recommend copy and save the files somewhere in case you need to put them back in there for service or something. I emptied mine and put ringtones in there, in a folder called my ringtones of course. Well to make a long story short, I hid my ext rom because if not my email attachments try to go to the ext rom instead of the storage card. Don't know why but it does. Something about ext rom is first to be checked or something. Anyway, it doesn't take long for the ext rom to fill up with the attatchments. Well apparently when you hide the extended rom, you cannot use the ringtones. I don't know if other programs installed there work the same because I pretty much quit testing it. So for me the small amount of space stays as wasted space. maybe I will try it again for giggles.

Sarge, USMC 01-22-2008 06:25 PM

ok, is there an app I can load from a cab that will unlock extrom so I can save what's in there? I have it checked off as an addition to my next ROM. I see guru mentions an archive above that will let me blank it......but I should save what's there first.........what was extrom used for in WM5 that it's no longer used for in WM6?

GaMedic 01-22-2008 06:52 PM

First off you can check out this thread http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=1258

I believe this is the registry edit to unlock it without having to cook new ROM.

Sarge,
It's not really WM5 versus WM6. More like carrier-rom versus kitchen rom.

The extended rom on the 6700 is a 9.9 MB flash partition that is set aside strictly for carrier (i.e. phone company) customizations that run after every hard reset. For Verizon, this includes the Arcsoft mms app and a number of cabs that set up your phone provisioning etc. For Sprint, it includes no mms app and a bunch of of junkware that nobody wants in addition to the basic provisioning. The kitchen now includes the good parts of the extended roms within the basic OS build, so there is absolutely no need to keep the extended rom intact.

I unlock it and install programs there.

gguruusa 01-22-2008 07:27 PM

That's thread's kind of overkill for most WM6 users. It was written back in the early days.

The ext_rom holds additional applications, files, and registry settings your carrier customizes your phone with. Some of them are useful, mostly it's crapware. The good parts were extracted and bundled into the carrier OEMs in the kitchen, or if it's a useful application, into an OEM. All of this makes the original ext_rom contents pretty much useless (and problematic in the case of some files and registry settings).

To back it up, just unhide and copy the contents off using. Or, you can always extract the ext_rom image from your carriers ROM update - then you can flash it back any time you want. But it's only useful for educational purposes or returning your phone to stock.

Sarge, USMC 01-22-2008 07:55 PM

ah dood it with the reg edits.....pretty slik.... 10 megs........tank ah.

I noticed tho that a soft reset puts all that crap back into ext_rom.

I tried to install TC into ext_rom and it didn't work..........so I did a soft reset and went back to look and all the junk was back. I'll try putting some music in there to see what happens.

Usually it's filled with carrier customizations and bloatware, like the little app that disables deleting all the Sprint stuff. I use mine as an extra storage card, and use Memory Maid to clean out the email attachments so they don't fill it up. I am poring thru the registry to see if there's a tweak to bypass the EXT ROM and send the attachments to the storage but haven't found it yet.(big surprise here since those that know much more than I haven't either-LOL!) It's still a good 9-9.5M of extra storage....

You unhid it, but you didn't unlock it. To actually delete the stuff there, you have to unlock it - same goes for storing stuff.

GuitarDoc - no, there isn't a regedit for it. It goes to the first device after storage, which is normally your SD card. Sloppy programming there.

I'd assumed that since nobody here had come out with a fix.

Sarge, USMC 01-23-2008 02:27 PM

OOoooh....and how do I unlock ext_rom?

1. Include the unlocker in your kitchen build (it's in the carrier ID section). I think it runs automatically if included there.
2. Search for "extended rom unlocker" and look for files attached. I saw a bunch in BigJ's rom thread. This way's a bit more complicated I think.
