usb port not charging - can i repair it?

my apache has become difficult to charge up the battery... I think the usb port is bad because i have to fiddle around with the port ,usually ending up applying pressure to the end going in the phone to make it work.I have tried car chargers and other usb cables with no luck.Is there any way to change it or must I send it back to UT Starcom for repair.Also I bought the phone used so it's customer pay... Any ideas? would be much appreciated.
