Nexus S Weak Radios/Battery Problems
I live in Chicago suburbs.. my TP2 never had these problems... but my Nexus S seem to always have 1 or 2 bars, the 4G signal never connects.. my bro has an epic 4g and 4g is always on and it has full bars.. wifi i dont have full bars even 5 feet from the the wirelss n router..battery takes like 4 hours to charge... and if ur using the fone while its charging dont expect for it get charged anytime sooner than that.. (and this is not watching tv or using internet much)
Can this be fixed with a patch or fix from sprint or google? im thinking of returning and waiting for evo3d... |
Wirelessly posted (Htc Arrive: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.4; en-us; Nexus S 4G Build/GRJ22) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)
I have noticed these facts about the a stock android 2.3.4 os. Battery charging only to 94,95% which is a kernel/battery thing. Example the evo never fully charged to a 100% it just said 100%. That's what prompted people to use custom kernels with SBC mod to deliver a bump charge. Aosp operating systems have a tendency to deliver low amount of reception bars. I don't put that must value of it, as long as I'm not dropping calls etc. I believe these are addressable in software/firmware/radio/kernel update. Well I not only believe I'm almost sure of it. If your a HTC sense user than the HTC evo 3d is worth waiting on. |
Re: Nexus S Weak Radios/Battery Problems
I'm in the north suburbs of Chicago, bout 45 mins away and have noticed my "bars" are less, but my speeds are the same. Haven't been down to the city to test out the 4G yet, but where i live 4G is very weak. my epic and evo would get a very minimal 1 bar, but i have noticed 4g on my ns4g is struggling to connect out here (never use it anyways tho).

system update will more than likely address the desired. |

agreed. here's what i posted at xda a few mins ago: I really didn't think i had this issue til yesterday. Where i used to have a bar of 3G with my my epic, i now have a bar or 2 1x with my NS4G. I used to have 1 bar 4G at work with my Epic, now I can't get it to connect from sitting at my desk. IMPORTANT HERE: My phone died at 6pm yesterday, i left it off and charged it til 8pm. WELL, my boss sent me a text message during those 2 hours telling me to come into work today a couple hours early... never got the message when i turned my phone back on (and i came in late for work today). When my boss didn't believe me, i turned my phone off, had him send me a text, waited a couple mins then turned my phone back on, and what do ya know, didn't get the message. This is a problem, cuz with my Epic I would recieve any messages sent to me when i turned my phone back on. I really hope these are radio issues that will be released in an update near in the future. I know we have 30days or something to return our phones, but I'm gunna hold out, i have faith there will be an update coming fixing some of these quirks. |
Re: Nexus S Weak Radios/Battery Problems
my 4g connects and disconnects every 5 seconds... its ridicoulus i dont even turn it on anymore.. it prob kills battery doin that all day

I'm gambling also with my 30 day exchange, hoping that a near future software update will address what's on. |
Re: Nexus S Weak Radios/Battery Problems
sprint has acknowledged the issues on the nexus and hopefully a fix will be coming soon. yes.. while aosp roms has weaker signals they are usually not this bad. this is a radio or network issue. i hope this is more software than hardware as i can see alot of people are about to return their devices. this is issue is on every major blog & forum out there including sprint's and google's.
the good thing about owning a nexus is you do not have to wait long for updates. |
Re: Nexus S Weak Radios/Battery Problems
Be fair, there are lots of good things about owning a Nexus S. I am stunned at how fast this phone is in general.
Has anyone put an Epic 4G next to the Nexus to compare the signal strength? I wonder if it is just a Samsung thing. |

Re: Nexus S Weak Radios/Battery Problems
I'm going to be up for an upgrade on Sprint soon and was comparing phones to replace my 2 year old Touch Pro 2. Out of the phones out now this is the one I was most excited about. I sampled one in the store last week and it seemed great.
However, now that I've had a chance to read about end user experiences and the chronic poor signal issue I'm content to wait. This phone certainly won't be a serious option until the signal strength issue is fixed (most likely via a radio update.) Of course, the real downer is the nearly year old technology that comprises this phone (1GHz single core, SAMOLED display, no gorilla glass.) The more I wait and the more time that goes by without the software issues being fixed the more content I am to wait for the Galaxy 2. I just can't see being stuck with a single core and 512MB RAM for two years. Who knows whether the Android updates a year from now will still run on that hardware? If Sprint held onto the once per year upgrade path then I'd be tempted. At 2 years, this phone is already too old. |

1. I have never drop a call, no matter what. 2. I dont suffer from any slow data speed (mobile hotspot or web). 3. The Nexus S will receive the next major android update and a few minors after that. Just like the big brother Nexus One. A. My issue is visual of reception bar. |
Re: Nexus S Weak Radios/Battery Problems
I have never dropped a call either. I wonder if it is just a graphic issue? Probably not. Moving from a hero to this phone has been wonderful.

Re: Nexus S Weak Radios/Battery Problems
i got an epic too.. never loses 4g signal... and fast as hell...

Re: Nexus S Weak Radios/Battery Problems
I just got my NS4G last week, and I got my wife an Epic. I can tell you that there is no question the Epic blows the NS4G out of the water on connectivity. I've run Speedtests on 3G and Wi-Fi (no 4G in my area) and the Epic is twice as fast. I'm about 23 days away from the end of my 30-day window, and I'm keeping a hopeful eye out for news of an OTA update...otherwise, I might be switching to an Evo 3D or something else.

Re: Nexus S Weak Radios/Battery Problems
I am thinking of doing the same thing. I like the phone but the lack of signal reception is bothering me. I haven't dropped a call yet though. As far as the speed it blows away my old phone! I don't need to go to 11!!! lol

I moved to a area of the city that has great reception and now I see a major difference. Im extremely happy with the ns4g hands down good investment. |
Re: Nexus S Weak Radios/Battery Problems
Well, I did it. I traded in my Nexus S 4G for the Evo 3D on Launch day. It was the end of my 30 days and I could not let it go. The antenna problem was huge for me and I have always had great reception with my previous HTC Touch Pro. I hoped the Evo 3D would deliver on the signal reception and it did - and then some! I am seriously happy with the Evo 3D. The only drawback is the netflix not being available on it yet. Apparently there is a problem needing to be resolved before they release it again but it will come - as opposed the Nexus S 4G which in my opinion has a design flaw that no amount of software programming will fix. If anyone is debating the switch - do it! You won't be let down. I did not want it for the 3D but it is a serious BONUS!

Re: Nexus S Weak Radios/Battery Problems
Just wanted to bump this to see if anyone had any updates.
I got a Sprint, Nexus S and my reception is pretty horrible. I'm listed as being in a "good area" but roam quite a bit. In fact, compared to my HTC hero, data reception is horrible. Just curious if anyone has any ideas or suggestions? Responses on the Sprint forums have said to take it in to the store, but I bought my device from ebay so I'm unsure if they'll be willing to help. |

take it to a services & repair store and them do a post test to address the radio/reception strength of your device. |
