Its Official:Internet Sharing/Tethering in mango

well I didn't see this posted anywhere else before so I'll post it here:

Mango supports Internet Sharing/Mobile Hot Spot feature | wpcentral | Windows Phone News, Forums, and Reviews

the article says that this feature may be carrier dependent. so there it is it's there. feel free to discuss.

That's great news. So even if my carrier doesn't activate it, we can probably plan on someone with skills creating a work around for it.

Technically, the capability existed even since the beginning considering the Samsung devices had a "##CODE" that you could use to turn the feature on, but, now that it's a bit more official, this is great news. Hopefully Sprint will be one of the ones that takes advantage.

I really miss it since moving from my TP2 on Sprint. I found the tether program online and used it for the wife. It really helped cut down on the "Are We There Yet" moments on trips. She could take her Notebook and tether and do whatever she wanted and leave the driving to me. I am really hoping I will be able to do this again by next year with my Arrive. If not, I wonder if I can do it with an iPhone5? Still not sure if I can drink the Apple juice yet or not.

I will hold on to my TP2 until I can tether a W7 phone. After a certain point, that becomes the main thrust of a phone. There are apps for everything else I need to make my WinMo competitive in performance to anything out there.

Everything except playing that Scrabble game from Zune with my niece. Anybody got a workaround for that? Zune has shut down pre-W7 devices.

well, while everyone's playing around in those area's hopefully we can find how to change the 5min idle timeout. even better if it could just be disabled while battery >=50% or on charge.

I think he means that the tethering feature has a 5 minute idle timeout. That would certainly be annoying, depending on how it detects inactivity... it could simply mean that it shuts off automatically if there's noone connected to it for 5 minutes, or it could mean that if the connected users are idle for 5 minutes. I bet the former in which it shuts off with no connected users.

no since I've been waiting for details such as this to be worked out.

yes gt2l, I'm worried that even with a pc connected it will use a idle timer on the wifi. That's how the wording reads to me.
