Are you a Windows Mobile Loyalist?

Do to recent news and blogs. Everyone is saying that Winmo is dead. Do you agree? For those of us who have been using Winmo since the beginning, we know that there are always issues with the devices, but, there has always been ppl out there to fix these problems, whether they be from XDA or PPCG or even other winmo dedicated sites. Give us your opinion on the situation, if you think its a good idea for MS to drop winmo or if you think they should hold on a bit longer.

WM isnt dead, i think they just got knocked unconscious for a little while :). I'm anxious to see what Windows Phone 7 offers.

I think it's just we are starting to see some true competition and Microsoft is being knocked off it's top spot almost thanks to Android but they aren't out. Look how much development has been happening just this year. First we started seeing 6.5 come out and the new Start Menu being more finger friendly, then we started seeing the PPCGeek & XDA proclaimed 6.5.1 release which introduced a few more polishes on top of 6.5 (ability to reorder Start Menu being the biggest), and so we see how close we are getting to 7 and I think it's going the right way.

Windows Mobile def isn't dead, but it is playing catch up big time.

While it does have a lot of nice features, one thing it will have to work harder than anything to over come is the cool factor. The Iphone is cool. People buy it because it's cool. They don't question the functionality.

The blackberry is cool, people don't question the functionality of it, because it's cool.

Windows Mobile isn't cool. It's for suites and IT people.

I work in IT and I know a ton of people who buy Blackberry storms because they are "cool." Now they are breaking them, loosing them, doing anything they can to get a more functional phone.

I use WinMo not because I am loyal to the product or to MS. I use it because I started using it many years ago and it is my comfort level. If something were to come out that did everything I need it to do and that OS were put onto a very nice piece of hardware I would consider changing.

I've tried the iPhone and wasn't all that impressed, nice yet, end all/be all, no. I don't think Android is what I want as sync'ing to my pc and outlook, calendar etc. is critical to me.

I'll be waiting to see what comes out in the next year and if MS moves WinMo into the game again I'll be happy. If someone comes out with something that does what I need and does it better than WinMo then I'll be saying adios.

^^What he said. I'm not a WinMo loyalist or anything; it's just that WinMo does the stuff I want to do, and is moddable and open in a way that appeals to me. If there were another phone OS that does the stuff I want to do as easily as WinMo does, I'd certainly be willing to give it a go.

Actually, I have given S60 a go, and like it as much as or more than WinMo in some ways. I even carry around an N95 I keep active on ATTM PayGo just as a hobby device (takes *great* pictures for a phone). Maybe if ATTM's 3g network was better and they weren't so much more expensive than Sprint, I'd be more into S60 by now.

Maemo looks *very* promising but the devices are going to be very expensive for a while. Maybe I'll check them out in a couple years, if WinMo7 doesn't live up to expectations.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 1.5; en-us; A6277 Build/CUPCAKE) AppleWebKit/528.5+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.2 Mobile Safari/525.20.1)

I'm on a hero but I'd easily come back if wm7 changed game more than eclair. They're gonna need a free nav app to compete and a better UI but i will def b checking it out!

lol OP who is this "everyone" that you are speaking of? iPhone loyalists maybe!? I really think Apple is peeing their pants right now. I think you are falling victim to Apples advertising. I don't buy it and neither should anyone else. IMO
