Re: Deployed in Afghan w/ Diamond Touch

This may sound stupid, but is there cellular service over there? Maybe it's a better idea to get an Iradium satellite phone. I'm sure if you looked around you could get a military discount on the phone and possibly the monthly access.

Re: Deployed in Afghan w/ Diamond Touch

Hm....would it support a data connection or phone as modem? or is it a cell phone service? That would not be a bad idea even if it were a simple cell phone service...as long as it gives a better deal on minutes than the packages offered by the contractors here on base...
the phone plans here charge a ridiculous amount of money and you have to purchase "units" at approximately 1000 for $50. Only problem is that you only get about 200 minutes out of 1000 units when calling back into the states...
It sounds like it might be a viable idea though...i'll go google it, but if you have any answers please feel free.
Thank you.

Re: Deployed in Afghan w/ Diamond Touch

damn...nvm...way too expensive. Would be good if I could get a few guys to share the connection though....so long as the connection would be fast enough split 3-4 ways :/

I'd say your best bet is to get a Bluetooth adapter for your laptop and connect your phone to your laptop via ActiveSync over Bluetooth.
