Learning about Phones in Detail

I've been lurking around here for a while. I've learned about unlocking and installing my own roms etc. I've pick up bits and pieces here and there.

I'm getting sort of tired of not having the whole picture.

So my question is does anyone know of a lengthy explanation/tutorial that goes over all the how modern cell phones and especially smart phones function?

I'm talking software, hardware, the networking. Everything. I'm sick of seeing some acronym and being completely lost.
