WM 5 backup/restore function

New to this site and WM5. Great info and learning a lot.

Question, is there a way to backup/restore in WM5 similar to WM2003? My old PPC6600 I had to do a lot of restore functions when the phone crashed and I want to make sure that I backup everything on the new WM5 phone.

Also, is the a way to not have activesync 4.2 do automatic syncs? I used to only do syncs when I wanted to in order to verify that all my contacts/appointments/files are moving over ok.
