Updated: Free direct push mail using mail2web tutorial.
1. Go and sign up for an account via this link HERE
2. Once you have signed up then take your ppc and go to start/programs/activsync/menu in the bottom left corner/ now select configure server 3. In the server address box put in mobile.exchange.mail2web.com and check the box that says this server requires and encrypted (SSL) connection. 4. Hit next in the user name box put your username@mail2web.com, password, and in the domain box put ad2. You can go to advanced to setup if u want it to replace item on device and an option for event logging. You don?t have to mess with these settings unless you want to. 5. Click next and select whatever you would like the device to sync with the exchange server. I sync everything cause if I?m out and about and I have troubles I can hard reset and sync my contacts, calendar, email, and tasks right on the spot. 6. Click finish, now go to menu/schedule/ in the peak and off peak boxes select as items arrive, now set the other setting to how you want. 7. You?re DONE! Enjoy your new direct push mail. NOTE: I recommend this service for people that live in an EVDO coverage until they fix the pinging. Cause when in a 1x coverage area it pings the server every 60 seconds just to keep the connection alive. And if you?re in a nonEVDO area this will cause you to miss calls all the time. Hopefully they will fix this soon. Supposedly they are working on this. |
Just to update everyone it is now safe to use mail2web all the time, even when not in a EV-DO coverage area. They have now fixed the pinging probelm. yea! \:D/ :headbang:

sorry guys i'm new to this and this may sound silly.... what is push email and how does it actually work
|
ok u know how pop mail polls every some many mins. depending on how u have it set up. well direct push, as soon as u receive an email, u get it on ur phone. no more polling, as soon as u send a message it sends. plus u can sync contacts and such. hope this helps. :thumbleft:
~mike |
yeah that helps a lot... now I was on windows mobile website and they have some type of update for push email... should we get that update also... and what other push email services are outh there... preferably free...
|
I know of no other direct push services that are free, but if anyone else does speak up, I know that most charge a small monthly fee of like 5 bux or so. Also I havent seen there was an update, can u post a link to that article?
|
here is the link i was talking about... http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...5/default.mspx
take a look at it and let me know if it's required... |
ok so I checked out the link provided, thanks by the way. I'm sure ur talking about where its says update for sprint ppc6700 right? I looked over it and that's just the rom upgrade. Note this does have to be done to use push mail. I have written a tutorial on upgrading the rom, and its a sticky. If you haven't upgraded yet, I highly recommend it. It adds a lot of features, including direct push capablities, voice dial program, zip program, and more. Hope this helps.

o.k. great, didn't even realize that... but i found another free push email service... http://www.emoze.com/en/ take a look and tell me what u think
|
o.k. just a couple of questions... w/ mail2go as a push email service will i have to use that as my actual mail account or will my current yahoo accounts be forwarded to my phone using this, b/c w/ the link i provided above ( http://www.emoze.com/en/ ) it says that you can actually use the email from your yahoo and google account & have it directly sent to you ppc? is this how this works... please help, i'm a newb trying to get email
|
Yea you can forward gmail. Not sure about yahoo, but ill look into it. But when u send using mail2web it sends it as username@mail2web not the @yahoo or gmail. Also I think u posted the wrong link in ur last post as its mail2webs game page.
~Mike |
emoze looks interesting, I'm looking at it now. as far as I can tell u have to install the emoze software, but that's free. with mail2web theres no need in software, just the account. I will relay my findings back to yall on emoze.

I haven't forgot about ya. I checked out emoze. And IMO mail2web is the way to go. Because you have to have outlook at home, run their program on ur ppc and pc, and have ur pc connected to the net all the time. It only pushes the mail once ur home pc with outlook has received it. Mail2web is far simpler and easier. Hope this helps.

ok im a lil new to this, so bare with me. i followed the instructions and my shyt is workin with mail2web. my only thing is, idk if its sync'ed with gmail or not. i use gmail on my outlook on my pc, and i use yahoo too. i just don't kno if its working, any help would b appreciated, thanx
|
log on to ur gmail and go to settings/ forwarding and pop3 settings, and forward all emails that arrive at ur gmail account to the mail2web addy. As far as yahoo, I dont think they have the forwarding option, so the only way to check that is through yahoos wap site. hope this helps and if u have any more ?s just ask.

This is my first day with direct push. Am I missing something or is this a pain in the PPC. All day I had things like, I missed a couple of calls. I had to soft reset a couple of times, I think because I would try to do something like make a call in the middle of the push mail coming in from the server. It interrupted a call with the "you got mail" while I was talking on the phone, whats that, is thats what supposed to happen. My PPC's reaction time seemed slow all day. Again is this normal or do I have something wrong. :?
|
nall I didn't see any change is overall performance. But it should be noted that u may have to press the send button twice to actually dial out, this is if ur are in 1x and not evdo though. I have a contact that has been talking with microsoft about this issue and when I hear of a fix, I will let everyone know. ;)

i have mine working correctly with mail2web also with fowarding my gmail. but how do i make my gmail address the reply address on outgoing emails?
|
its not possible to my knowledge. I know it can be an inconvenience. but I find I need direct push over regular. and most ppl don't even notice that its coming from a different addy.
|
cool i was just wondering if it would group conversation in gmail for the other person the same way. but really its not such a big deal. i love the push system its cause i hate browser mail on the ppc. thanks for the info; great tutorial
|
no probelm and thanks for the compliment :thumbleft:
|
Its my second day with the direct push and I must say that I am a believer. 2 times today I knew the topic of the phone call when the phone rang. I had few problems with slow downs, I think the building I am working in causes some reception problems and mabe jumping in and out of EVDO might have been causing the slow down. However I did notice some reduction in battery life but not more than I can live with. Thanks Wideawake for posting such a great right up. mail2web has some great free services. I like knowing that I can get my information right from the server. I no longer need a PC to sync.
|
no probelm ;) its good to have, and in evdo u shouldn't be missing calls unless u are on the edge of 1x and evdo and its jumping between the two or u didn't do they added step in the rom upgrade.
|
No I didn't do the added step I will on my next hard reset. When I first read about the added step I wasn't using push and I didn't need it. Now I will have to rethink that. Thanks for reminding me. 8)

Ok... I had push emaill when I had my blackberries... and for a long time I missed it. However, I had gotten accustomed to "pull" email... So *IF* I decide I don't want push anymore... how hard is it to delete the connection?
|
its VERY simple ;)

HELP I did a hard reset today and now I cant get the mail2web connection back. After I set up the server settings I try to sync and I get an error, says Attention required. When I click to see what is required it says synchronization could not be completed. If this persists, try deleting and then re-creating the device sync relationship. Got any ideas what I am doing wrong. thanks for the help.
|
OK I got it fixed I was putting the server name in wrong. Lesson learned don't work on PPC while drinking. :)
|
sorry I didn't respond sooner but I've been taking it easy  anyway yea I had the same problem a couple times after my hard reset but after messing with it, it finely worked and I was using the right server addy. I dunno glad u got it working, I personally can't live without push mail! :D

I've been thinking, I have mail2web and my POP3 ISP accounts set up on Pocket Outlook. Can't Gmail be set up as POP3 as well? I think that's how I have it set up on Outlook Express on my PC.
I say this because if it's very important for someone to have outgoing e-mail from their Gmail account but they can't because they forwarded to mail2web, they could set up Gmail as a POP3, turn off auto-check, and just use it to send e-mails. |
yes it can be setup as a pop3 but Im not sure if u can forward and email from pop3 at the same time. not sure about this, but if it works it would be a solution to keeping the @gmail.com, which it doesnt matter to me ;)
~mike |
About the forwarding and still being able to send email.. yeppers it can be done. I have my gmail set to forward to mail2web and have my phone set to only download the first 2k from mail2web and then I manually download the full email via pop to my phone (or just check from the web depending on if I am currently surfing or not).
|
Sorry if I'm chiming in a little late, but this is a great thread! Thank you very much for the how-to! (Never knew what to set as the domain, so I thought push couldn't be done with the free account).
I need to set up a similar solution that I had on my old Blackberry but I can't seem to find a way to do it that is cost effective... I have numerous POP accounts, but really I only need one that is pushed to my handheld. I used to have that POP account forward (server-side) to my Blackberry Internet Service push email address. On the setup of that push address, I could change the From/Reply-to field to be that of my POP account. So as far as I or anyone getting the email was concerned, that email was from my POP address, not the @blackberry.net address. I know I can forward my emails to my mail2web.com push address, but if I reply, it will be sent out as the mail2web.com address. How can I get around it? Is my only way a 3rd party email solution on my handheld or a $10+ a month hosted exchange service? There's got to be something easier, no? Thanks for any suggestions! |
the cheapest way would be to do what's stated above. leave pop3s set up and email outbound from them. while just using mail2web to receive/be pushed. Are u sure u can change the outbound with a paid host? I'm not sure....but I dunno. I figure if u can do that on a paid y not the free. Also 1and1 has a cheaper push, I think. And mala uses something different I think...can't remember what he uses tho....Mala if ur reading this what do u use and how much is the service?

I can definitely have that address push, but I guess I'm just lazy and don't want to have to change over to my POP address to reply. Thanks for the info! Edited: 1and1 looks like a pretty good option! Kudos for that. |
no problem :thumbleft:
|
followed the tutorial perfectly, but when i got so sync it tells me to fix my password for a2d/ajk511@mail2web.com. and then i enter my password and it just does that again. trying this with the 700wx btw
