Got the Galaxy SIII and love it. I've been having a blast going through all the features. Still haven't seen/figured out many of them.

I'm still thinking about the S3 but, after holding out this long for the next WP device on Sprint, I might as well wait a little longer for the Note2. If/When they get the tower in my area back up and running again, or if the Arave I'm supposed to be getting fixes my problem, I still may hold out in hopes of getting a decent WP8 device when they finally decide to bring one out. I'm leaving myself open for now.

I know the specs of both but it seems that more people prefer the evo even though it's specs is ever so slightly worse on paper.

I will suggest you to go for Galaxy S III.
The reason are-
S III has better speed for surfing web.
It has better front camera.
It is upgradable to Jelly Beans.
