[ROM] - CleanROM 2.1 - Updated 7/26/11 - Overclocked, Ad Blocked, WiFi Hotspot!

CleanROM 2.1 - 7/26/2011

Many new enhancements! See Post #2 for flashing instructions, prerequisites and change log!

CleanROM was designed to be a cleaned up Sprint Stock ROM. I removed all of the Sprint bloatware and made some minor changes under the hood. I am using the picasticks-07 kernel for overclocking. The ROM defaults to a safe 748MHZ but can be pushed as far as 846MHZ. You can change the clock speed to your liking with a program like SetCPU. You can also use this or similiar programs to return to the stock speed of 600MHZ and still benefit from the improved kernel. I have also added an updated HOSTS file for ad blocking purposes. Other than that its a pretty pure Android ROM. The only added apps are Hotspot Widget and Quick Boot (Reboot). Enjoy!

Feature List
Working Hotspot Functionality with Hostspot Widget
Latest version of all apps Inluding Android Market and Google Music
Circle Battery Mod
Reboot App
159 Megs of free Internal Storage for apps
Ad Blocking via HOST file
Removed All Sprint Bloatware
Picasticks Overclocking Kernel safely clocked at 748
Swype
Visual VoiceMail

Looks great Scott. Congrats on your new release. Wish I had an Optimus to check it out :)

Hey Scott, My optimus is my first Android phone and it is NOT rooted. I have been thinking of rooting your release for the simplicity and for the wireless tether but was concerned about problems with rooting.
*Can the phone still OTA or download new updates from sprint such as If Gingerbread rolls out for Optimus S...will there be any problems getting the update.

Would sprint know or ever figure out if I'm rooted with wifi-tether?

Please forgive me if my questions are out of place here on your thread.

This is my first android phone too! But no, your questions are plenty valid. I am sure others are wondering the same thing.

As far as OTA we would have to see. It would probably work but... its also pretty easy to revert back to stock ROM configuration so we would have to cross that bridge when we come to it. Im not worried about it all because I know its easy to go back to full stock.

AS far as Sprint figuring out your rooted... Highly unlikely unless you need to take it in for service. Which in that case... See above ;c)

As far as wireless tether... I think we are good there too. I know LOTS of people on this forum that use wireless tether on Android devices (WM too!) and Sprint has never said a peep!

Feel free to ask away.

Hello,

Created another thread here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/lg-optimus...ssistance.html for q/a related around flashing and rooting the optimus. Continue discussing Cleanrom in this thread! Looks great.

Can this be flashed with drellisdee's custom recovery (based on Amon_Ra recovery)? Also can we get an MD5 for this? :)

It should but I have not tested it. If you can flash other custom ROMS with it then this should be no diff. The only recovery it will not work with (for sure) is the clockwork mod 3.x series.

And yes, i will post an MD5 tonight.

Let me know if you decide to flash with dresildee I dont think it uses edify, correct? If it doesnt use edify it should work, meaning use amend. Clock work mod uses edify so that why it wont work. I can also recompile the ROM any ways.. Let me know...

Scott, I installed SetCPU from the link you gave me "over there" using ADB. I wondered if anyone has had any issues with setting the minimum to the lowest setting (128K I think). When I use lower settings on my Dinc and Evo, it can cause wakeup issues...

I'll post what I find as I play with SetCPU on the device.

You know, I havent really used it much to underclock but I would like to know you results.

I did however overclock to 864 but my device froze alot so I left it at the kernel max point of 748. Also, I heard most people can get about 800'ish stable but have not had time to monkey with that either.

But please post any results you have.

One last thing, why did you decide to use ADB to install? Just curious? I always use a filemanager. I love FileExpert. Best there is!

Thanks again for this rom! I was able to flash via drellisdee's custom recovery without any problems. Also, I downloaded the rom to several devices and kept getting 8b60fbfeae7bd3fbf21f00169cfcd0af for the MD5. Just wondering if the MD5 you posted may be incorrect...
Thanks again :)

What are you using to test the MD5? Can you send me a link? The MD5 I used I also used to test against other known MD5 sources and they all matched so I concluded it was accurate. I will link back the MD5 app that I tested with. i could have posted the wrong MD5.. I'll let you know.

I used AFV from the market as well as MD5 command in terminal (Mac OS), both of which gave me the MD5 posted above :)

I guess I used ADB because it's a tool I need to become familiar with. I used the one-click root but then didn't find a way to install Xionia without using ADB. I hadn't used it before so I downloaded the tools and read up a bit and then installed the recovery. After doing that, a simple install was cake. :) I've always enjoyed a moment or two of command line interface as I have a better idea of what I'm doing.

Edit - SetCPU 787/245. A little bit quicker and no wakeup issues so far. Leaving it on "On Demand" and it snaps right to attention. 128 doesn't appear to be supported as it "grays out" if I select it.

Ok, I used your MD5 app and I go the same results you did. I am confused. Maybe I did post the wrong MD5 or possible used an MD5 from one of the beta ROMS I was working. I wll check again when I get home but I can confirm that the MD5 you got matches what I got when I used AVF.

Yeah, I actually like using the command line as well. I am still learning as well. I think if the kernel is locked at that level then thats how the kernel dev wanted it. IM sure we could try to tweak the kernel to drop that low but that would be beyond my scope... At this time ;c)

Its not really grayed out... Its just the way the program looks. I just tried it and I got it down to 122MHZ. Check out my screenshot.... IM gonna run it like this for a day and see how it is...

Just checking in, Scott... 2 weeks with two phones on this ROM. One phone is running setcpu at 800/128 and the other with the standard as set up by your ROM.

In a nutshell: better performance and I've yet to see or hear of a single force close, strange reboot, or anything else for that matter.

Hopefully that Dalvik mod is on your plate... at least until you get root on your 3D.

Thanks Kenn! Glad to see its still runing smooth for you. I'll try to look at Dalvik this weekend but with the Evo 3D in hand... Its just hard to go back ;c)

Oh and how is battery at 800/128 vs pre set speeds? Just curious.

I don't really see a lot of difference in battery performance, really. It's hard to tell if it is any quicker than the your stock 748mhz setup.

Evo 3D... Root is close. Real Close. As soon as root is available, stable, and there are ROMs to try, I'll probably upgrade.

I may wait on the "HTC Kingdom", though, which might just be the Evo 3D sans the 3D part and instead have an 8MP camera and 4" screen. That would rock my socks. We'll see...

I have made some updates to the ROM. New version is 2.0.

* New features in this version
* Dalvik Cache moved to cache. This increases the internal storage for apps to 161 Megabytes!
* Added circle battery mod to display battery percentage in the notification bar
* Updated the Market application to 3.0.27
* Updated Google Maps to 5.7.0
* Added the Gingergread Launcher from Android 2.3. It has been themed to maintain the Froyo theme of the ROM
* The ROM now wipes all data before installing. No need to wipe data before flashing the ROM.
* Latest host file for ad blocking

Re: [ROM] - CleanROM 2.0 - Updated 7/23/11 - Overclocked, Ad Blocked, WiFi Tether

Hey scrosler: I recently got this phone and thought it ran fine stock, but of course I wanted more performance, so I decided to root and try this ROM according to your instructions. After doing all that and rebooting out of recovery I ended up at the home screen, but the phone tries and fails at Hands-free Activation. It does this whenever I restart, and I have no 3G service.

Do you know how to fix this issue? If it matters, my phone has SW version LS670ZV9. I tried updating using the LG Mobile Support Tool but it says that I have the latest software version installed.

Yikes, your at V9... And you flashed a VD baseband ROM. Not good but we can fix that though! I am going to upload some stuff for you. Its called KDZ. It will allow you to flash the phone to a completely stock VD baseband. Like brand new outta the box.... You will have to root and install custom recovery again though.. But that should not be an issue.

Hang tight while I zip the files you will need then upload....

-Scott

Edit1: If you think the phone runs good now... Wait till you got it running with my ROM. Its a nice improvement :)

Haha great...You might want to mention the VD requirement in your first post then.

Call me ignorant but the SW version was just an afterthought I had once the handsfree crap popped up. Texting and calling still work...if I didn't test internet service then I'd have no idea that something is wrong...

Yeah, you totally correct. I just made an assumption everyone was at VD. My bad. I am finishing up the tutorial for this... Almost done!

BTW: You are not ignorant. Thats my bad for not outlining this prerequisite.

EDIT 1: I updated Post #2 to signify the need to be at the VD baseband.

Okay good. I don't suppose a recovery would rectify everything? I did make a backup after installing Xionia, although I admit I don't know what actually gets backed up... or where it all goes.

What we are about to do is restore this phone to Like New out of the box with the VD baseband.

If you have a recovery saved you can also restore it to bring you back to the point you were at before you installed CleanROM. The recovery backs up pretty much everything (for the most part)....

Eitherway....

Download and follow the instructions I wrote (PDF and TXT). You can reach me on GTalk during the process if you need help. Send me a PM with your Gtalk address and I will add you.

Great work, Scott. And to think that you developed ver 2.1 exactly ten years ago, way in advance of Android's initial release. Unbelievable! haha

Anyway, you'll be happy to hear that ver 2.0 worked well for the most part. My phone did freeze twice - once on the unlock screen and once in the dialer - for about 5 secs each time. What do you do to prevent stuff like that from happening?

I'll see if I can move to 2.1 later today.
