the reason you can't port an wm app or iPhone app is that WM and Apple are not open source.

That is also the reason you can port android to WM devices or iPhones without and legal problems and why you cannot port iPhone OS or WM to an android device.

The idea of Open Source is that the source code, the actual programming, is not hidden from you. If you want your notification bar to be purple, you can reprogram it to be purple. Thing is, you better know a crapload of programming in C++ in order to do it. The advantage of open source, is usually a community behind it. Because there are people who know a crapload, and will change the bar to purple and tell people how to do it.

This does not, however, mean that you can install any application on it. Applications are compiled (translated from programming code into a code readable by the machine) with a certain operating system in mind. Same reason you cannot take a program from your PC and install it on Mac.

The ability to install application on more than 1 OS is called "Cross Platform" and usually has nothing to do with Open Source.

Damn n00b (Just kidding)

Yeah, C++, but even worse, you need to know C.

UI is all in Java.

Heh at least Java is cross platform. But yea, I figured C++ is a must. I think that some assembler as well. And assembler scares me. But I am easily scared, some of VB.net scares me.

Assembly... every time I go to sign up for classes, scrolling by the assembly programming class sends shivers down my spine.

Assembly isn't needed. The core is built on C. C++ is used a little bit, I think in some libraries, but mostly everything you'd need is Java.

VB.NET shouldn't scare anyone. ;)

When I first read the title, I thought someone was trying to port WM to and Android device...LOL....I feel bad that I even assumed that...
