Hi, in anticipation of the unlocker, here is an Rom Update utility I patched for flashing custom roms on the Treo Pro. I changed task 28 to task 32 to prevent hard resets on accident. Use this for flashing all custom roms on the CDMA Treo Pro! Tested and WORKS for sure on Sprint.

Chris, may sound like a newbie question, but..... what's a ROM Update Utility? At 1.5 MB it surely ain't a custom ROM.

Do you mean this is just for using when someone does get a custom ROM? Is this the unlocker from cmonex? Or, are we still waiting on that before we get custom ROMs?

No such thing as an ignorant questions, only ignorant answers :) . The RUU, Rom update Utility, is used in flashing custom roms, the stock will not work with custom roms, so what I did is patch this one to work with custom roms.

I will release it once the unlocker is released. I have 6.1 totally done, 6.5 is booting but giving me a weird issue that im trying to resolve...

Not currently, im on Sprint (CDMA). This unlocker is CDMA only, please dont use it on GSM.

Wait, so that RUU actually bypasses the CID check, not the SPL? I wasn't aware that this was possible since way back when.

I'm whipping up a custom splash to test it out.

Everyone, the RUU is NOT used in bypassing the CID check or used as an SPL, i simply patched it to run task 32 after flash so it doesnt hard reset after radio/splash flashes. Rom and unlocker should be out soon.

atleast we know it will be out sometime this month!!! But the real Windows Mobile 6.5 will be released on OCT 1... So what if it comes out around then... Will people get a refund?

If you can get a fully functional WM 6.5 rom by then, then more power to you. Where are you getting OCT 1st from? I have not seen this anywhere.

a refund? no way...remember...there will be no official win 6.5 update for the treo pro. cfay and cmoney (LOL) are trying to make this happen for us.

If you don't want to pay your more than welcome to make an unlocker yourself and try to sell it to us. There is like 3 people in total that I know are capable of doing this and there are quite a few phones that get released. Its not a 2 second process either, even the touch pro took a while to get unlocked and it was taking a high focus.

THANK YOU, someone gets it... To be honest, im getting sick of comments from people who think this is owed to them. This is NOT a speedy process and takes time to get right, sure we could release a half-***** product now but who wants that? I sure dont want my name on that... Blunt, yes a little, but I feel like I need to say it. Im not trying to be rude but I think I need to be clear on that.

OMG I freaking hate this...no memory. I can't wait for the update. It's going to be extremely helpful just to get rid of the bloatware so I have more RAM. I can't take this anymore....I've literally almost smashed my phone several times because it is so frusrating and freakin' skyfire takes up like 12-13 megs so I can't have anything else open with it because I installed the Manila 2D.... So slow too...

CFAY, we really do appreciate you driving this. If some of us seem to be bugging you about it just know it is because we are exited to get this. If you told me today that it was too much of a pain and it wasn't going to happen I would completely understand.

This is great!!! CFAY, will this also have the pagepool changer or is it even necessary for the treo pro?? OR can we use the pagepool changer from other custom RUUs?? IM getting a TREO PRO tomorrow for $200 and cant wait to start playing with it, too bad its going to straight to my girlfriends hands (-_-).One more thing, I really appreciate the time and effort you are takin in extending the possibiliteis of WM phones.

Thanks, theres no way I wouldnt release lol I have spent 24 plus hours on getting it as perfect as I can. This device was no cake walk in getting it to run as desired.

Hey yea man i appreciate getting it to work on the device too Cfay... Hey you said you didn't hear anything about 6.5 coming out.. Here's the link right here.. Microsoft is going to release Windows mobile 6.5 at the beginning of next month buddy.. But good thing we'll have it before then like u said earlier in this post :) Cant wait.. Read your link, no where on it does it say the Palm Treo Pro CDMA will get 6.5 anytime soon. That article is varie vague and says some devices by HTC etc. Even if they DO release it, it would be an old copy of 6.5 and be loaded with bloatware.

I might be wrong, but it sounds to me like some people are under the impression that when MS releases 6.5 we can all go to a website and download it and install it ourselves, just like the iPhone. Which, of course, is not the case at all. As Cfay knows all too well MS mobile operating systems must be built and customized for each individual handset model. Generally speaking a handset manufacturer would have to devote developement resources (programmers) to customizing the OS for each handset.

Of course companies generally invest time and money into projects that generate revenue (otherwise nobody would buy their stock and they would go out of business). So in order for Palm/HTC to invest those resources on the Treo Pro, there has to be a better reason than the warm fuzzy feeling they might get by making current owners interested in the update happy. (not that warm fuzzy can't make a company money, but lets face it.. their not going to lose much business from Treo Pro owners who feel jilted they didn't update it).

If Palm/HTC is interested in continuing to produce the Treo Pro after 6.5 is released, they may indeed spend the resources to update it, knowing that a 6.1 OS phone sitting on the shelf next to a 6.5 OS phone will not sell as briskly as they would like. But the fact is that Palm is releasing a new phone with the same form factor as the Treo Pro with their own Web OS, making it somewhat likely they will discontinue the Treo Pro.

Therefore we must rely on the good graces of enthusiasts like Cfay and Cmonex. They have donated their time and knowlege to produce an update for the Treo Pro community. People with the skills to produce these updates could spend their free time making money, going on vacation... etc. But these folks are doing this simply for the thanks they get from us.

Question for you cfay... How much memory do you think will be saved (in the RAM, or even disk space) by removing the bloatware when the new rom comes out? Also, does anyone know of a way to use hard disk space as RAM (like virtual memory in windows?). My phone seems crippled and I always have to close EVERYTHING and/or restart my phone to open skyfire with anything else.

My WM 6.1 rom that I built, has about 45-50% memory on boot and WM6.5 has about 55-66% memory on boot.

wow. the most I ever have is 78-79% on a fresh boot, before anything is even opened.

Same here and I just don't see why...

Even on my old Vogue which has less of everything (ram,mem,processer) it comes in at about 55% on the stock ROM fresh boot. Running a good version of 6.5 on my Vogue produces 30% usage fresh boot...

I do know that a custom ROM will bring the TreoPro up to where it belongs in terms of performance and its well deserved because this device is really a overlooked gem!!

Try again, rapidshare was probably out of free slots. Its only on rapidshare and thats how I want it to be. Just tryed and it worked.
