[SPRINT RADIO Unlocker]Sprint RhodiumW WU Radio Unlocked for US Networks

what is this? - this package unlocks your Sprint phone and will enable it to use a US SIM card on a US network in your device - if you flash a non-supported (non-patched) radio over a supported one (as below), you will lose the ability (a reflash will restore it easily of course).

if you have a Verizon or Telus model, you will not need this.

WU means Worldphone Unlocked, look out for the WU on all radio
firmwares to indicate whether it's been patched as unlocked or not! (WV = locked.)
this first radio version is 2.05.00WU and the second one is 1.96.00WU, for people who had issues with 2.05.

YOU MUST BE SECURITY UNLOCKED IN ORDER TO USE THIS!!!- if you are not Security unlocked, you will get a Flash Write Error.

DOWNLOAD BELOW:

1. 1.96.00WU (Sprint stock edited) -> this is the recommended version!!!
2. 2.05.00WU (USCC test edited)

again all the important notes to use this:
1. you must be security unlocked to flash this, see link above!!!!
2. the patch will not stay if you flash another radio but we'll release patched versions for other radios from time to time (for newest radios).
3. when you flashed the radio, you need to make sure to be in GSM mode (GSM SIM inserted of course http://forum.xda-developers.com/imag...lies/smile.gif ), and if automatic network selection doesn't work, use manual selection in phone/options to register on the network.

Re: Sprint Unlocker - RhodiumW WU Radio Unlocked for US Networks

copypasting my post from other thread..... maybe helps to clear up some confusion :)

SIM Unlock: allows you to use any SIM in your phone, i.e. the phone recognizes and accepts the SIM without prompting you for an unlock code. it is permanent without special tinkering. no worries with warranty, no need to reverse it.

Security Unlock: this one is what you need for flashing whitestone radios or the patched sprint radio! this unlocks the entire radio and you can do with it whatever you wish.
it is permanent, to reverse it for warranty issues, you have to send a special command to the radio, here is a file to do this for you: http://hpcmonex.net/htc/secrelock.zip (run it on the phone)

CID Unlock/True SuperCID in Radio: it clears the CID in the radio (note, HardSPL also CID unlocks you in a way, but it's only fake CID clearing) this used to be interesting in the past, on GSM devices not so interesting now. on previous CDMA devices it was very useful to be SuperCID but let's not talk about that. I don't know if it is still good for this model, didn't look into it yet...
also permanent unless you set the CID to something else, again using special commands.

CID Unlock VS HardSPL: if you just need to flash cooked ROMs, HardSPL will suffice. but note, this package bundles HardSPL too for comfortability.

Sprint Patched Radio: this allows the phone to register on US networks. not permanent, if you reflash radio to an unpatched one, this gets lost.

nono, very easy to solve that fluke, grab the public hardspl package, use manual mode, flash, it'll reboot OK

it sounds like even though you ran the sim unlocker you didn't actually unlock your security. the exact same thing happened to me when i tried to flash the unlocked radio. but since i really don't feel like getting flamed for posting the exact same thing on two different threads, here's a link.... http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...10&postcount=4

I gotta say i'll be pretty surprised if it works... i coulda sworn i read somewhere that the rhodium cdma/gsm wasn't setup to do data on the gsm network. then again, they've told us that a lot of things weren't possible with these phones... i'm still waiting on an fm radio lol

good question... was it Step 2 or Step 3? if you still can't sort it, send us a msg using the support page at our site.

on that note... i'm not sure if it's been addressed yet but i found the instructions on how to sim unlock pretty good all the way up to the end. that gui that pops up on the phone screen... there's not much description as to what each option does so the first time i did it i didn't select anything (the instructions say something like if you don't know what it means then don't mess with it). then when i went to flash the unlocked radio the phone soft reset and i got stuck in bootloader. all is well and i figured it out, i was just a lil confused on that screen.

Re: Sprint Unlocker - RhodiumW WU Radio Unlocked for US Networks

I have a Sprint TP2. If I sim unlock and flash this radio I will now be able to put in a ATT/Tmobile sim card into my Sprint phone and use it here in the US correct?

Will the phone operate on both Sprint/ATT at the same time? if someone calls my sprint number the phone will ring, if someone calls the ATT number the phone will ring?

Or do I have to tell the phone to operate on Sprint network and manually switch it to the GSM network when I want to use that network/receive calls?

I ask because I may be getting a cell phone at work and I believe they use ATT. I really don't want to carry around 2 cell phones.

I hope this made some kind of sense. :)

This is the way it works yes. You would set the device to automatic and when someone calls your sprint number the phone will ring, if someone calls your att number then your phone will also ring. The phone has two seperate radios so that is how it works. The sim card is what is atually activated so that is how gsm works and on cdma the esn (electronic serial number) is what is activated.

I don't think this is correct. You can have only one radio active at a time.

I went through the learning curve for this when I was in hongkong with my phone... You just have to go into the data settings for the gsm network, kind of similar to setting up the connection to dial the #777 for cdma, but much easier on GSM..

You just need one very important piece of information to get data to work, you need to know what AT&T uses for their access point name ( APN ) and put it into your data settings under GSM networks, it will have a single line that you put it into. A quick search on the internet shows that it should be public, or proxy depending on your connection plan, if its PDA for data it should be public.. if its just data, it could be either public or proxy. Here is a link to their page that tells you what the name is.

https://www.wireless.att.com/support.../KB/KB517.html

and to get into the settings to put this information in you need to go to the settings tab and click on the comm manager and click on the text area of your data connetion if you have the newer UI's and it will give you a setup wizard. just select at&t, if you don't have that, you need to go into all settings from the soft key on this screen, go into connections, select connections again, if you just have sprint here you need to add a new modem connection, select new, give it a name of AT&T, select the drop down and make sure you pick the GSM version of the connection, click next, then put the proper name into the APN slot, public or proxy, then finish.. you should now be able to use data on your AT&T sim as long as you have a dataplan setup.

hope this helps..

the guy that replied earlier that said both work at the same time has no idea what he's talking about

i have the same issue - except mine is a tmo sim instead - i put my tmo sim after unlocking and unfortunately it looks like right now you can only use either cdma or gsm - not both at the same time

Do you just manually switch the phone to CDMA or to GSM depending on which you want to use?

Just keep it on Global mode if you have another carriers sim card in, that way when your off your CDMA network if available it will switch to GSM automatically, but as long as their is a CDMA signal even if roaming it will not switch unless you do it manually to GSM only.

Re: Sprint Unlocker - RhodiumW WU Radio Unlocked for US Networks

I ran the your hard spl, sim unlocker, and patched radio http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=93865 so I could get my Sprint RhodiumW to work on US GSM networks. However I cannot get a lock onto the US Tmobile GSM network at all. It tries on a soft reset and then fails. I do get status stating their is a voicemail and that is it. I am using Radio 2.05.00WU.

Any Thoughts?

Well I have solved my own issue. For anyone in the US using Sprint and are having problems, this is what I did to fix the problem.

After doing the Hard SPL, flashing the patched Spint 2.05.00WU radio, sim unlocking, and installing your sim, you want to use go to phone settings and the network tab. Then to test to make sure you phone works change mode of operation to GSM and the important kicker here is to set the GSM Network selection to Manual and then select your GSM carrier. Now everything works. I hope is helpful to some.

Cheers,

You can only use one radio at a time. So its either CDMA or GSM. You do not have to soft reset either when changing from CDMA to GSM. I would be nice to have both on at the same time though.

=)

Re: Sprint Unlocker - RhodiumW WU Radio Unlocked for US Networks

Does anyone know if when using this patched radio the GSM side of things works on the 3G network (ie. is this a GPRS data EDGE only connection), or WCDMA 3g data connection on either AT&T (850/2100), or Tmo (1700) frequency. (I may have the frequency numbers wrong, or even the names, but the point of the question is does the Sprint TP2 phone work on US 3G data networks, or is this only for Voice and Edge)?
Thanks

Re: Sprint Unlocker - RhodiumW WU Radio Unlocked for US Networks

To flash this do we need to have a activated GSM sim inserted or does it need to be the sprint sim that came with the phone? I assuming the sprint sim since its for the radio but don't want to take a chance of messing things up.

Ok, so far in my searching I have not found a straight answer to this question: Does this combination of unlocker and radio flash unlock the US 3G bands? I know there are other unlockers out there that unlock US GSM networks but they don't unlock the US 3G 850/1900 UMTS bands.

Can anyone confirm that after doing this operation they are getting the USA 3G networks....not just EDGE speeds?

Dave

Here is you answer, no 3g on US GSM networks. Only Edge. US GSM 3G carriers use different frequency bands.

Cheers.

Ive seen this asked many times, and to date the answer is no. The reasoning behind it being that the phone cannot handle the connections simultaneously for both gsm and cdma more or less. One could POSSIBLY however, insert card, and remove card and go back and forth. I'm with ya on it, it would be an awesome feature... but i bet you'd have like 2 hours battery life :P

I feel ya..battery power .. make sense...unless of course you had the phone plug in to the wall.. While you had a head piece on .. and using your phone as a modem via wifi.. :P ... They that would be three radios at once ... lol.... hmm.. where there is a will there is a way!

THanks
