[PRJ][ROM][CDMA]Rhodium Elite Project - RC1

Hey!!! We’re back! We got such a good response from our last few projects that we wanted to move forward with an Elite Team HardSPL and ROM for the CDMA Touch Pro 2!!! This is the official thread and all official announcements, updates and releases will be done here or linked from here to other threads, when necessary. If it doesn’t come from here it’s not official and you deal with it at your own risk.

NOTE: This project will be better organize. With the Raphael CDMA ROM project, we had two members almost out of commission due to life issues. 1, Ltxda’s daughter passed away and that in itself was hard for him to deal with even though he was still trying his best to stay in the game and 2, the cook was having some personal obstacles that threw him “off balance” but now he’s back and doing better. That said, we’ve reorganized, learned from the obstacles we had to overcame and have new cook that’s ready to kick some butt. We’re also, soon to, implement tentative deadlines to ensure everyone is on the same page and will communicate more closely with the community. That’s how we do it in this team…admit when we trip, get back up, identify ways to fix it and try not to let it happen again then move forward stronger than before. Isn’t that how we all work? :)

::Initial Project Goals::
- HardSPL!
- Better Device Experience: Produce an "out-of-the-box" ROM for professionals/power users with...
- Increased functionality: Release a fully loaded ROM and a vanilla ROM. The project's RC releases will be fully loaded. I believe that if you test a fully loaded ROM and optimize it very well, when you strip the excess baggage it'll perform that much better.
- More stable: Release a ROM that is more stable than the stock, not too difficult to do, but ensure the stability is there when you have to push your device.
- Enhanced Memory Management: Ensures you can push your device when you need to without out of memory problems. Not always 100% possible due to third party product flaws but we do our best.
- Superior Battery Life (not always possible but we're going to give it a good go at it)
- Boost speed: When you want the device to respond it better.

::What we need from the community::
- Donations: As with all of our other projects, we'll need donations to get devices to make this happen. We need enough donations for 3 devices. The team is spread out around the planet so we can’t easily work together on the same device. Many of you know the team from interacting with us on projects related to the Athena, Shift, Raphael (GSM & CDMA), Rhodium (GSM), etc. If you need a reference check out our other projects and what others have to say. Our ROMs aren't for everyone but those that are looking for a better and more functional experience often choose the Elite end product for their needs.
- Involvement: Your involvement is imperative to the project's success. We want feedback, suggestions and lots of testing. We want the ROM to be put through the paces and for the community to report real world issues. We want your suggestions as to what freeware is useful to you and why. We include a good deal of freeware for much more functionality than a stock ROM but there are many products out there that we haven't come across, this is where the community support helps.
- Help Others: Help answering questions for those new to the community or Windows Mobile devices or HTC devices for that matter. Help directing people to the answers so the core team can focus on continued development efforts, etc.

...more to come soon...

RhodiumW Elite RC1 Release

We would like to welcome everyone to the RhodiumW Elite ROM!

It is a based on Windows Mobile 6.5 build 21869. We have included several applications in this rom, but made most of them uninstallable, for those that choose not to use them.

We included Remote Tracker, which allows you to locate your phone if lost/stolen, among other functions. The configuration is copied from the SD card on hard reset, so as long as the SD card remains in the phone it will be installed for you, even if they hard reset your phone.

We also included a few "toggle" items in the start menu, to add/remove Gyrator, VistaHide Battery Gauge, etc., to the startup items. There is also a "Rearrange Start Menu" item in Tools that will move the links to a few apps you may have installed to where we thought it made sense to put them.

We included a slightly modified version of GadgetFreak's Bear Bonz Round Taskbar theme (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...30&postcount=6), with GadgetFreak's kind permission. The "slight modification" is colorized "Ev" and "rA" icons.

Also included are four new Today themes using m.carroll's GlossBlack (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...48&postcount=1) and GlossBlue (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...9&postcount=42) themes as a base, again, with m.carroll's kind permission.

A list of the included apps is attached to this post so feel free to check it out. Also as always we happily appreciate donations, so if you feel so inclined please donate here: http://alturl.com/5in6

As a note, we do know this rom needs some polishing, but we didn't want you to have to wait till we had a "perfect" rom... no long delays like we had before. :)

Now for the part you all have been waiting for! The links!
Sprint: http://eliteteam.htc-hackers.mobi/pu...9_20091024.RAR
Verizon: http://eliteteam.htc-hackers.mobi/pu...9_20091024.RAR
Note on customization:
During the customization portion of these roms, the rom will reset before it seems to have finished. This is normal, and customization will resume on the next boot.

Also anyone that has any issues/suggestions/just wanna say hi, feel free to join us on IRC at: http://java.freenode.net/index.php?channel=eliteteam

Thanks for the great rom! Does anyone have a way to get rid of the flames on the first couple splash screens (the orange and then blue)? My guess is we need to flash a new splash screen but I haven't seen one available. I am on vzw if it matters. THANKS!

Because these are the guys who created the HPSL unlocker... I loaded their ROM first.
It has a TON of options... and lots of extra programs... but I feel as if I have to say "A Little TOO Much". It is very laggy... the default Today Screen for MS, moved VERY slow. I had to hard reset the device 3 times before I could finally get into touch flo today screen, because the entire device kept locking up... It is a good ROM, just not for me... I will try to load a later Release Candidate...

+1 I flashed this rom and it was too unstable for me, so I flashed back to Mightys and I'm still stuck with these ugly splash screens. How do I fix this?

I flashed back to the stock ROM to fix the startup screens, then flashed Mighty's again.

+1, but the splash screens are gone finally for mine. Mighty's is one smooth operator.

Well been running this rom all night and at first it was a little laggy but now its running great. I might just run this one for a few days before I switch to something else.

I agree it is quite bloated and sluggish, and was unstable for me.

I too was stuck with those rather gaudy splash screens left behind by this rom. They weren't overwritten when I flashed mighty's rom. Call me a glutton for punishment but I got rid of them by re-flashing the Sprint stock roms. For some that might be more trouble than it's worth, but I just couldn't move on without getting rid of those screens.

We will be putting out an item to flash back stock splash screens so that that will be easy as well

Re: [PRJ][ROM][CDMA]Rhodium Elite Project - RC1

I installed the ROM, all went well during the installation. Though this did take longer than ROMs in the past. Seemed like 20-25min to from start to finish.

The initial Boot is slow and the first 5mins of soft or hard reboot. ](*,) I tried launching an app after things seemed to show some speed back, it locked up on me.

I know this is an RC1, so I am expecting these kinds of things.

Thanks for the effort, looking to try again.:headbang:

Well I have been running this rom since last night and for the most part its been running good. Now on a soft reset it take a while for things to get up to speed but after that then its fine. The only other thing though is the high percentage of memory usage, with minimal use I am using 70% no matter what I am doing. Once I start using it heavily it gets up to 85%, I thought that was kind of high even compared to the stock sprint rom with no tweaks.

I thought so too, but my stock sprint rom used about they same amont of memory...i flashed Energy's leo rom and it's only using about 45-60% usage

When looking at the memory usage, consider that you have Titanium and Manila loaded at the same time. Will probably be changing the "Desktop" softkey to unload one when loading the other, to avoid that.

Ok, I guess that makes sense is there anyway do disable titanium since I don't use it?

I like the splash screen personally, but where is all the traffic? I can't be the only one that don't have problems with this rom.

On disabling Titanium, yes, very easy. The "Desktop" softkey doesn't actually switch to "Titanium" per-say, it just switches between TouchFlo Detacher, to Today, to SecondToday. We defaulted Today to showing Titanium. So, go to
Code:

Start/Settings/Today/Items
and uncheck "Windows Default", that will turn off "Titanium" on the Today screen.

Incidentally, we defaulted SecondToday to showing HomeScreen++, but with all the rows turned off; main reason for HomeScreen++ was for the "Tray" on the bottom.

On the traffic, VERY good question. :D

I was planning to try this rom next (currently on Mighty) but the few comments and little traffic in this thread make me think I should wait for RC2. I do appreciate the work that has been done so far, keep pounding away at it.

Re: [PRJ][ROM][CDMA]Rhodium Elite Project - RC1

Flashed this rom first the other night and while I definitely wouldn't call it unstable, it did seem laggy all over. When I try it again I'll be sure to turn off homescreen++ as I would only consider using titanium or manilla.

Re: [PRJ][ROM][CDMA]Rhodium Elite Project - RC1

I flashed this ROM first because, well it's Elite and who doesn't want to be Elite?

But I succumbed to the majority and it wreaked havoc on my TP2. Switched over to Energy and after a few minor adjustments it works. Probably try Juicy and Mighty too but I'm going to go back to stock VZW since I hear that's how to remove splash screens.

Don't get me wrong, it has LOADS of sweet eyecandy extras, but it ends up bloating too much. Something I've found on both ROMs is that any task manager or gyrator running causes freezing issues.

Oh, and no other way to remove those splash screens eh?

What I did to get rid of the splash screens was to flash back to the shipped ROM and do a hard reset and they are all gone.

Mighty is awesome btw and Juicy is a close second.

I like Mike's, Juicy's Cfay's and Nagra's ROM's but for the looks, features, and options this is my favorite so far. It has a few bugs like the start up screen and the freezing when swapping between the multi screens but overall this thing is a working progress and as long as Elite tweaks the little things it will be the stuff by far.

Cant wait for a R2 release on this thing.

Re: [PRJ][ROM][CDMA]Rhodium Elite Project - RC1

This ROM works for me after the following tweaks:
  • Tools->Advanced Config: Fix the splash screens here
  • Settings->System->Startup Manager->Disable TouchFlo from Auto Starting
  • Settings->System->Soft Key Change "Desktop" Key on the bottom left into a Contacts shortcut, this disables the other path whereby TouchFlo would startup
  • Install PocketInformant
  • Install Shoaco's improved Start Menu (Smaller honeycomb/Icons)
  • Setup Today screen with HTC home plugin (Banzai HTC Home Plugin, found on XDA)

Things I still need to do (this To-do list is really for my own reference):

1. Organize start menu into fewer folders, get rid of links to things I will never use.
2. Install Pocket Player and setup with Bluetooth Headphones
3. Install SPB Backup and setup a nightly Backup
4. Install G-Alarm
5. Load Custom Ring tones
6. Setup G-mail "exchange server" sync (Remember to not synchronize "tasks")
7. Install S2U2, or alternatively set up built in WM6.5 slide to unlock so it is tolerable.

Question: Is there any way in this ROM or otherwise to stop it from ever going into portrait mode? I would prefer to stay in landscape at all times.

I also like the rom but there were to problems. One it is sluggish and slow and the start up screens I just could not deal with. I did run it for a day and overall like it because everything works lol. Its just to slow and I just really don't like the screens. I will be waiting for the updated rom with hopfully more speed and different low key type of screens lol.

Landscape is the mode it is in when the keyboard is out. I want it to be in that mode all the time, including when the keyboard is closed. Landscape is the mode where it is more pixels wide than tall.

Ok, the best I've come up with so far is setting Gyrator to run at startup (also running task manager and adding an exception so it won't show up in the alt tab menu). I deleted most of the events, except for rotate, made that the highest one and selected "reverse landscape" as the only orientation to activate this event under, and then "rotate screen" as the only action to be taken. This way it rotates to reverse landscape automatically, but will never go out of it automatically. (for whatever reason reverse landscape is the orientation that it has when the keyboard is out, it ought to be called landscape but whatever).

It still returns to portrait upon closing the keyboard, which is annoying but not so bad, because I can just tilt it over again to the left (if the earpeice is the top with the screen facing face-up) and it returns to reverse landscape. If anyone knows how to stop the auto-rotation to portrait after keyboard close please inform me.
