I found a fix on XDADevelopers worked for me. Bit of a pain but no problems with SMS whatsoever anymore. No lag, no error messages, able to send and receive just fine.

Enable MS Messaging Client cab
Following up to my post above. I have created a cab that will make this process easier. There were a couple mistakes in the "app.reg" file that I have corrected. So, here are the instructions to disable the HTC Messaging Client and enable the MS Messaging Client instead:

1) Uninstall any messaging related cabs (including the Zenyee or Static cabs)
2) Disable Sense
3) Use Total Commander to Delete the "ManilaFull.xml" in the "\Windows" folder
4) Install the attached cab that corresponds to your device (GSM or CDMA)
5) Soft Reset
6) Go to "HKLM\System\Inbox\ExternalAccounts"
Rename "SMS" to "SMS.htc"
7) Soft Reset
Install Arcsoft MMS software (go here if you need it)
9) Soft Reset
10) Enable Sense

Please let me know how it works for you guys!

I can already send texts w/ the MS messaging client by pressing all messages. I'm lookin for a fix for the HTC client because I prefer that interface

Count me also as having same problem. Inbound SMS works great. Outbound... not so much.

Problems with HTC Sense UI Text Messaging App still persist:

1. Sim card error message
2. Cannot send text messages from HTC Sense UI Text Messaging App

Otherwise its an awesome ROM for me to use!!! Great Job!

Hi everyone....
I see people are having issues with the 2016 date problem and the sim card problem also.
I'm using a HTC Touch Pro on the Sprint network.
I just loaded the Energy.HERMAN.23542.Sense2.5.Mar.05 ROM.

This is how I got them to work.
Right after installing the ROM install:Ziggy 2016 Fix.cab
Then install: SMS SIM card error fix.cab
It will do a soft reset.
To Test out goto Messages and send a text to yourself. Then reply.

That's it. I hope this helps.

i Downloaded this rom 2x because it hard resets after a few minutes by its self. I made sure my pro is unlocked and the rbh is not corrupted. but still.. hard resets itself after a few minutes. I thought maybe its a program i am installing after a while but even running on bare bones this rom does not like my touch pro. Anyone have the same issue? BTW.. Sprint carrier.

Try a flash dance (hard reset, flash to stock rom, hard reset, flash to energy, hard reset)

Same, after using the SIM CARD ERROR FIX i get the "The destination email address is not in the correct format. Please correct the format and try again. Msg 2106." Error if I use HTC messaging tab. Windows builtin app works.

Yeah I had the same issue and thought redownloading and reflashing would fix the issue. Then I read around this thread and decided to try a flash dance like spector suggested and now I haven't been having any problems. (Other than the volume control issue I posted a few posts back)

whats a flash dance? Show me the steps couse I would like to keep this rom myself but the hard resets are killing me!

I dont want to read all 2000 post for the answer. :P
