What to do first, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th?

Hi,

I am waiting on a new in box Sprint Touch Pro that I got off Ebay. I want to customize it, but I can't find out which order is best.

Once I get the phone, should I turn it on, hard reset, unlock, esn swap/activate, backup and then flash in that order or is there another order that's best?

Wow you said a lot. First things first, I would slow down my plans a little. Next, activate the phone first, (no need to change the esn at this point unless the current esn is dirty, youll find out when you try to activate. if you plan on flashing right away, there is no use in backing up your current rom bc you can only transfer contacts, tasks, appointments between roms to be safe. otherwise you may find instability due to compatibility issues. i reccommend starting odd by reading and searching for types of programs you would like to try. such as: good lock program windows mobile. xda-develpers and ppcgeeks will become your good friends, just look around.

Re: What to do first, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th?

Agreed, I recommend getting used to the phone 1st. Find out your likes and dislikes. You may like the stock ROM and just want to add programs, clocks, etc. You may not like the stock ROM and want to flash, and then you will end up like me and be addicted to it and it will eventually consume you, lol. Sooo, IF you do decide to flash, do A LOT of READING 1st!!! READ, READ, READ!!! Most any of your questions have already been answered you just have to look past the 1st or 2nd page sometimes. Check out some of the ROM available, each are unique, some more stable than others, some are loaded roms packed with apps, games etc. Some are CLEAN Roms, or LITE edition, usually those are for someone who just wants a fast and stable rom that they can add to IF they want and that way they can choose what goes into the ROM. My advise is read, take a look around, do your homework, lots of info on this site alone. Good luck to ya, anything I can do let me know. Oh, and be sure to thank anyone who helps you along the way. Not by typing it, hit the thanks button and it will be much more appreciated

Thanks for the quick responses. I have to do an esn swap because I'm using a MotoQ now on Sprint and I want to switch it out for the Touch Pro.

I was pretty sure thats what you meant since you were switching to the Touch Pro from another phone you would have to do an esn swap. I didn't even know we could change our esn if needed otherwise though? So if a S/N is flagged as lost/stolen etc, you can actually change that?? And if so it would have to be a valid esn because if it's not found in the warehouse it will not even allow you to activate it in the system, sorry to jump subjects here, but this I've never heard of. And if it's possible, thats some pretty nifty ****!

yes esn's can be changed, but it's illegal in most countries, and can lead to jail time

Re: What to do first, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th?

I definitely don't plan on doing anything illegal. I probably just got my terminology missed up. By esn swap, what I mean is provide Sprint the ESN number of my TP so they can link it to my Sprint account and remove my MotoQ as the phone for my Sprint phone number.

Hope that clears it up.

In other words he's just activating the new phone for current use xD Sprint's ESN swap is just not changing the esn its just activating the phone intended for current use.
