Need a tutorial on cooking ROM....PLEASE

So here is the deal...I have been lurking in the shadows of PPCGeeks for a couple months now researching ways to make my Touch Pro better. I have unlocked my device and flashed many roms to it.

The problem that I am having now is that I would really like to cook my own rom. There is an abundance of information on here that is helpful but I am not familiar with some of the terminology. I want to cook a TP2 style rom.

I am not looking for a handout just some advice and perhaps a tutorial on how to accomplish this. I will be more than happy to provide a nice donation if someone provides me with the tutorial.

It amazes me that there are so many people on here with such a wealth of knowledge. I hope someday I can also be so knowledgeable.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Need a tutorial on cooking ROM....PLEASE

Check out my tutorials in my sig. They were for the vogue, I've upgraded to calcu's kitchen since because of the limitations of my old kitchen. Same principals in any kitchen...

Much along the lines of rstoyguy's post, here is the thread that his tutorials are located in, contains a few more things you may find useful:

Best of luck!!

Why donate to one person, when you can support the site that makes it all possible instead

Re: Need a tutorial on cooking ROM....PLEASE

I can't give you a step by step guide as there are FAR BETTER cooks than me...

And I haven't really cooked much with the TP yet.

But when I was cooking for my XV6800 I found it extremely helpful to not add to much at once and then try to figure out what went wrong...

Start off trying to make the cleanest rom possible, then start adding bells and whistles one at a time and then test.

You will wind up flashing 40-50 times until you get the one you want but you will be able to identify problems much easier because you will know what changed for the worse and can try something else.

They key to a great rom is to not have too many redundant apps that do the same thing and then deciding which one you like the best...

Re: Need a tutorial on cooking ROM....PLEASE

Thanks for all the advice so far. I have thanked each of you...even whomever rated this thread as a 1...lol I am just confused by all the information in so many different areas.

Is it safe to assume I can find the majority of info I need on this site? I have seen a few mentions of XDA... any good information there or is that primarily for GSM? Any other places I should look for help on this?

As far as cooking goes, it is fairly universal between GSM and CDMA, it is just the specifics of the software and hardware used that differ. Processes and tutorials, as well as the tools used to make the ROMs will remain consistent.
