Choosing a ROM for a Verizon Touch Pro???

Hello friends,

I am having the damn hardest time understanding what changes are including in all these ROMs.

I am newly converted back to Win Mobile from BlackBerry and havent had Win Mobile since 2003se , but I am somewhat familiar with WinMobile in general.

I had the Omnia for about 2 weeks and sent it back in favor of the Touch Pros full keyboard. So I have had my Verizon Touch Pro for about a week now and am very interested in flashing my ROM.

There are so many ROMs out there and I don't fully understand what I will be gaining or losing for that matter by flashing. I love everything about this phone except the battery life , its killing me , it dies on me usually 1-2 hours before I am heading home for the night ,coming up just short of making it a whole day and thats with little to NO internet usage beacuse I am trying to get the battery to last. I would much prefer being able to use the internet at will without having to worry.

Also the Touch Flo is awesome and I wouldn't want to lose that but the Verizon theme is kinda ugly , so I used TF3D config and am using the "black Diamond" TF3D but it has significantly slowed down my device.

Do you have any advice in choosing a ROM to use?

Thanks for your time!

PS The Touch Pro I got has a few cosmetic defects and Verizon is going to send me a new one IF I decide this phone is what I am going to keep, but that highly depends on if I get a ROM running it the way I want, but either way the TP I have now is going back. Is it a bad idea to unlock, flash some ROMs to see whats out there , and in a couple weeks relock and exchange for a non-defective TP , or should I realistically not be "tweaking" this TP that has to go back???

THANKS!!

SSK 1.5 is the only ROM that you should run.... it's by far the best series of ROMs for our gimped Verizon Touch Pros. As far as tweaking a phone that's going back, it doesn't really matter because you can always relock the phone and flash the original ROM back to it... but if it's only a matter of days, then it wouldn't hurt to be safe and wait on the new one.

Re: Choosing a ROM for a VErizon Touch Pro???

Hey hey hey hey hey... i wanna join the SSK welcome wagon!!!

You should really try them out!
Scott was the only one to start out making Verizon based ROM's or Kitchen.

Sprint has a totally different amount or RAM for the Page Pool, and as such most of the Sprint ROMs aren't really geared toward the smaller amount us Verizon-ites have.

Give it a go, and if you need any help.. just hit up the thread SWA linked to... we'll be there if you need any help!

Good luck man!

Re: Choosing a ROM for a VErizon Touch Pro???

I too was going to recommend SSK 1.5 as the ROM you should use. Seems Scrosler has done a great job with it.

As for me when I was exchanging my first TP for another I flashed it like 6 times to try out several that were available at the time. It was a great way to get an idea of how each ROM worked for me. And since I wasn't keeping the phone I really got to test it out. Just remember to flash back to stock before sending it back!

Re: Choosing a ROM for a VErizon Touch Pro???

So, I've always wondered why people get so worried about re-locking a phone before sending it back. You PURCHASED the hardware and can legally do whatevery you want with it. Do they void your warranty or something for flashing ROMs?

You own the hardware but not the software. Thats somewhere in writing in the terms and conditions.

Flashing also does void the wannaty if they find out. Well thats what i was told by a VZW cs Rep. Dont know if that is true or not.

I relock about 50% of the time. The other 50 I usually forget to. Never had a problem. Always revert back to stock ROM!
