Re: 4 APR 09 - UPD 23: SSK 1.6 Rev A - 12 OS'es to cook with, 9 Bonus ROM's!!!

Question:

I'm new to the community and just happened to land here after doing some research.

I've updated my ROM to Scott's CE OS 21028 Build 21028 and wanted to know the following:

1) After updating my ROM, I'm connecting to verizon's dial up network for the internet. Is this normal, or should it be connecting to verizon's 3g network (my carrier is verizon).

2) I'm trying to get some sort of GPS functionality for the touch pro. I can't seem to get any sort of GPS lock (using google maps, etc.). Are there additional steps that need to be taken in order to get GPS working after the ROM update?

I apologize if these are basic questions. I'm new to the community and just simply trying to get caught up.

Thanks.

Scott, hopefully you read this. How can i manually get to the the "text message" options that used to be in the settings/system menu? I'm asking becuase I'd like to change my message back to classic for a PIM backup restore and it comes out messed up if its in threaded mode, so I cant change it.

It just says Dial Up because the phone access VZW Data by dialing #777. As far as GPS goes, first make sure you have applied lllboredlll's GPS fix ver. 2.0 (found here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=49933 )

Hey welcome ! well first off I dont think it should be connecting to a dial up network, but im not too familiar in that area. I would check your setting in Comm Manager and make sure its not connecting to a dial up.

Secondly, for the GPS, have you checked the the location settings? Sometimes it is off and this will stop all GPS activity. Go to Settings/phone/services and go in the location settings and see if its "on"

EDIT* Take Siva's advice...that sounds more right

Thanks for the quick reply.

I just wanted to make sure that I didn't need to take any additional steps in order to connect to the network (except for dialing *22 after flashing with the new ROM.

I'm working on applying bored's procedures for the GPS right now.

Thanks guys.

I figured out that you can change this with the Advanced Config tool. Hopefully this helps someone else too

No need to do the *228 anymore... Scott took care of that a while ago.... also, don't forget to thank Scott or anyone else that helps you by clicking the green Thanks button in the post.

As others have stated, you're connected to the data network. Whether it 1x (slow) or EVDO (fast) is beyond your control. You can tell which you're connected to by looking at the top task bar. I'm not sure which icons Scot put up there, but typically, if you were connected to the EVDO network, you'd see EV in a box up there. As I mentioned above, there are newer, "prettier" icons so I really don't know what you'll see. If you're at home, with a wireless network, you can go to COMM Manager and turn WiFi On and it will connect that way.

In regards to GPS, do the !!!BORED!!! FIX FIRST, then under Phone/settings, make sure that the location is turned on. To get google maps to work, in Settings, under External GPS, for Programs, set it to COM4 then go to Google Maps and also set it for COM 4. If you're not familar with GPS, sometimes it does take a while to get the "first" fix. Make sure you're near a window or outside when you first try it. It makes it easier, and you're sure you have a GPS signal.

I've applied the bored fix but still can't seem to get a GPS lock via google maps. I've manually set google maps at "COM4" 4800. Google returns the message "No GPS receiver was found."

Under phone settings, location was turned off, so I had to turn it on. Otherwise all other setting were properly applied. Anybody experience the same issue?
