Re: Fastest Bare-Bones Rom?

Definatly cook your own if you want a really clean rom...

I cook my own with Calkulin's Kitchen and I have the nbh file down to 81.3mb. I still have all functions on the phone plus SprintTV, PocketArtist, and Monopoly. Even some of the roms that are clean are around 100mb or at least ones that I have used.

As far as cosmetics either install cabs after flash or figure out how to include in rom. Most are pretty easy to figure out how to do that. Calkulin's kitchen includes the sdautorun which if set up right will install all needed cabs after flash automatically.

I am running scrosler Choice rom and it has been fast and stable. All Scotts roms have been very stable for me. You can download his pre-made roms or kitchen.

you're right, and i apologize....the wording was a little harsh, but i meant nothing negative.....i was refering to aesthetics and they are subjective.....

please don't hang up the hat man....your ROMs are very solid.

it's not that i'm hung up on the cosmetics and i value performance way more then looks. i don't really do much aesthetic customization....but sometimes little things peeve you, ya know?....something like 90% of failed marriages are due to little things....

i was aware that Y4Js4.0 was off of your base, which is why i flashed what ever you latest was at the time(v2.0 maybe?). and i am in total agreement that you should include whatever you as the chef want....i feel bad for you guys at times because i read through all of the requests and *****ing posts in your threads. because of this, i refrain from requests/suggestions and limit my posts to bug reports/fixes unless the chef explicitly asks for requests/suggestions.

cheers guys,

But your right cosmetic issues are B/S. Stability and speed are all that matter.

lol.....i'm no noob, and i have cooked my own ROMs so i have a very good understanding of what kind of effort goes into these releases. i just don't have the time these days to do it, and even if i did, atleast one if not most of the public ones would be superior anyway.

i'm with you 98% on that last statement, let me tweek it for you:
cosmetic issues are mostly B/S. Stability and speed are what matter most.

Re: Fastest Bare-Bones Rom?

It doesn't take much at all to cook a ROM. Why do I keep seeing that?
It took a loot to find all the OEMs I wanted to add which tweaks worked and what tweaks needed to be tweaked.
But a bare ROM with any of the kitchens are easy. The Chef has done all the hard work packaging everything up, updating OEM and drivers, fixing problems.
All we have to do really is download choose what we want in BuildOS and flash it.

I also advise just cooking your own, though the proper URL for the kitchen is http://ppckitchen.org/. However, posts here at PPCGeeks may be a better way to get started with the kitchen.

Well I just built myself a so called "bare bones Rom" built off of the 20755 sys.
this rom i built is not very finger friendly and i removed the touchflo interface so i can use the old school today screen.
if your looking for something like this id be more than happy to post it or even rebuild it customized to your needs if youd like.
message me or repost if your interested.

Re: Fastest Bare-Bones Rom?

There are tons of free and paid for apps that will give you all the cosmetic "window dressing" you feel you're lacking. Speed & stability are the MUST HAVE, pretty is just icing on the cake.
