**NEW ROM** Stock Sprint ROM w/ 32MB Pagepool
 

After being annoyed by the contents of custom ROMS with modded pagepools, I decided to do the pagepool mod on the stock Sprint ROM. It's for those of us who like and/or are used to the Sprint ROM and don't want the hassels of a modded UI, missing apps we liked, and tons of crap we don't.

DISCLAIMER: As usual, you use this at your own risk. I take no responsibility if you don't know what you're doing and brick your phone. I'm running this ROM without issue, so I know it works. If it screws up for you...it's your fault.

Also, if someone could mirror this, that would be cool. RapidShare...10 DLs max...FTMFL

what is the benefit of a 32MB page pool and can I do this with a regedit? If so which key?

Really no point to post this. if users wanted to use a larger page pool on a custom rom they could have saved bandwidth and updated the PP them selves.

How would you update the PP then? And again, what is the benefit? Is it similar to the windows page file size setting or something?

In a nutshell, higher pagepool takes away from your usable RAM, and gives you a performance boost. In order to edit the pagepool, you must do it prior to flashing the image. It can't be done with a reg edit :-(

you all could go to this thread and download the OEM ROM and then go to this thread and figure out how to edit it for yourself. once you finish that go to this thread and figure out how to flash it. just a suggestion so you don't have to wait on someone else. that's what i did and it worked just fine. one note though, the OEM ROM is an EXE file so you will need to extract the NBH file before you edit it. I used winrar to extract it.

see post 13. learning to do it for yourself will help you to figure out how to do other mods for yourself. it is always easier to ask for someone else to do it for you, but what do you gain from that?

So...anyone have comments about the ROM? I'm thinking about redoing it with the following:

1. Add sliding sounds...like the Mogul.
2. Removing "Message sent" notification in SMS.
3. GLYPHCACHE change to 16MB

jest because u can see some bytes that look like the pp string dont mean its 32 mb. IF the PP is infact 32mb then in Setting > System > About the memory will read 183.42 if it reads ANY thing els the page pool is NOT 32mb. the PP hex sting appears multiple times and u have to change the correct one. easiest way is to do it in your payload before you compile the rom.

I haven't flashed yet, and pending confirmation that the pagepool is really 32MB, I will flash this weekend. As for changing it, don't. If it is a pure stock ROM, leave it that way. Leave it to the user to customize it themselves. Just my opinion though....

i used a custom rom from one one on here (i think it was JD's 3.3) and it had the sliding sounds. at first i hated it but they actually grew on me to the point that now being back on the OEM rom i miss having them. what is that app called? slidesounds or something like that?

This is only true if the PP is static. Mine is dynamic. It expands to a maximum of 32MB if needed...just like a Windows-managed page file.

By your figures:
Currently I have 207.51 available. If 183.42MB means a 32MB PP, then that mean the phone has 215.42MB of available memory without a PP. My phone currently has 207.51MB available, which means my phone has a 20MB PP. If 12MB PP = 215MB RAM, then 207MB RAM means PP is using 8 more than 12MB PP...which equals the 20MB. And since it's dynamic, it can expand to as much as 32MB....which is how I edited it to be.

So yes....this ROM's PP is confirmed. Juggs even gave us the baseline data to prove it....:)

Oh! COnsider this:

20MB is 12MB short of 32MB. I think Juggs' figures are wrong. Those numbers are suspiciously coincidental...:D

stock PP is 12 MB, which reads 203.xx mb

subtract 20 from that 203 - 20 = 183 my # are correct.

If Available system memory is 215.xxMb - 32MB PP = 183.xx available ram

If Available system memory is 215.xxmb - 12mb PP = 203.xx MB available system memory.

run devhealth.exe wait 8 days for it to finish and read the log 183.xxMB = 32mb PP it will even tell you it in it the log

i think your figuers are wrong. google is your friend and so is reading on how the pp and memory management works in WM 6.x works, then you can say some one is mistaken. if they actually are. which im not.

attached you will find a read out of my device memory. also since the pro has 256 MB of ram however 39-40 mb of that is reserved for modules, that leaves you with 215-216mb of usable program memory. and you have to subtract your PP from that available memory.


this ends Juggalo_X's class on why he is not mistaken and is 100% correct.

no, incorrect. 215mb Available is before the deduction of the PP, static or dynamic. and even at that if its dynamic it will still report the amount of available system memory as if the full pp was being used. so if you have 32 MB dynamic it will still show 183.xxmb available program memory.

256 - 39-40 MB reserved mem for modules and you are left with the usable program memory.

FYI, I tried the download from the first post, and it is not a 32mb pp. So I broke down and spent the additional 5 minutes following the (elsewhere) provided instructions, and created my own flash...

I just checked the hex and I had 08 15....that's NOT 32MB. So I just redid it....again....20 16....and now my phone has 183.42MB avaialble. <sigh>

Where is that damn hide-behind-a-couch smiley when you need it.

I just tried updating to this ROM and I keep getting an error of:

ERROR [270] : UPDATE ERROR

The image file is corrupted. Please check your Update Utility.

I have downloaded the file a few times thinking it might have messed up but same result. Any suggestions? ](*,)
